2005 2.4 RWD 5 speed gearbox removal

Quick question, can you get the gearbox on these out (or at least far enough to easily do a clutch/flywheel) without dropping the subframe?

I did my mk6 2.4 rwd 5 speed clutch yes, but you'll need to undo the sub frame bolts enough to slide the box back far enough.

Sub frame drips down a few inches.

Did you have to loosen the front subframe bolts as well? I was hoping there was enough room to squeeze it back without dropping it as i know both captive nuts have broken free, and I also think one of the rubber bushes has welded itself to the bolt going through so i'll have to cut it all off and get a new bolt and wishbone, as well as cutting to get access to the captive nut. Oh well.

I had to undo my subframe all the way as the bolts were very rusty so removed for cleaning while I was at it putting the box back on was erm interesting as the top of the box will catch on the insulation but is do able I did mine on my own.

Get a24mm socket on a sliding socket bar 3/4(large size) it fits into the box section then use a breaker bar underneath on the bolt to undo it, you should spray wd40 on the nut end too.
Don't need to remove the bolts but undo them as much as you can, I recall it give about an inch more gap but is necessary.

I just did it and it wasn't an issue so I don't recall vividly what I did Lol. Done mk6 mk7 and custom.

From bitter experience with my Mk6, you can just about get the 'box back far enough without loosening the subframe - mine was rusted solid.

Turned the 'box on it's side and pulled the engine forward gently with a load strap.

Much bad language was involved
