white smoke

Postby ChrisH » Fri Aug 17, 2007 4:07 pm

Hi all,

i have a 1994 2.5 di transit and it has started to churn out white smoke, at first i thought it could be the injectors so i had them tested and they checked out ok. Secondly i thought about the ERG valve so i did the mod on that no joy. Ihave tried putting injector cleaner though and no joy. At the moment i am at a loss and was hoping some one might have some other ideas.

Regards
Chris

Hi MrMPuk

Sorry forgot to mention checked out timing and it seems ok used the three drill bit method, locking off the fly wheel, cam shaft and pump.

Pumps goosed then. You could try adjusting the pump by fidling with the timing but this i only a short term fix.

Hi MrMPuk,

Thanks for all the advise. It's not the original pump that was on this van that one was goosed, it's off a donor van that's body work was total shot, and when i took it off it was fine no smoke at all, any further advise would be great.

Kind regards
Chris

Last changed filter about 6-7 months ago don't do that many miles only to work and to the local motocross track about once a month ( 60 mile round trip)

My betting is the pump, if in doubt get it checked. Or as I said mess with the timing.

Would it be worth changing all the filter and putting in fresh oil

i was referring to the fuel filter, that might be worth a go , cant do any harm anyway.
you mentioned that you have put this pump on your van off another one, i am presuming then that your last pump packed in, what were the symptons that made you think or know it was the fuel pump that was your problem, could you go through as to what happened from the beginning beefore you changed the pump,
