Door Panel removal

Postby millertime_1985 » Tue May 13, 2008 3:23 pm

Right im spending my afternoon trying to do odd jobs and clean out the cab area.
im trying to remove the interior door panel on the passenger side and have it about 90% of the way there... but the i cant get the winder handle off....

the Haynes manual says get a cloth and slip it round the back of the winder to loosen off a spring...

what spring... i cant see or feel a sping.

how the hell do i get the panel off?

iv been at it for over an hour now... getting ready to get a hammer and smash the panel...

You could buy the proper tool, or you could just wrap a length of cotton material round the winder, make sure it goes into the gap between the door and the winder and then turn the winder, the spring clip should pop off.

Push the panel back and look between the gap, I've always done them with a screwdriver.

No, it's a bit of wire bent to make a clip. You need to push it from the side where you can see the 2 ends.

Not sure if it the same on Transits as most cars, but if there is enough gap at the other you can make a small hook tool from a coat hanger or other wire, hook it in and pull.

I have a homemade tool for this that lives in my toolbox full-time. It's proved invaluable at times
