Holden V6 CONVERSION

Postby GRIME » Tue Oct 21, 2008 7:45 am

Hi everyone I am looking to replace the existing 2.5 L diesel and Trans in my 1998 Transit with a Holden 3.8 V6 and T700 auto trans.
Has any one done this conversion. Is it a good conversion. Are there any suggestions you can offer. Has any one got a set of instructions for this project. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks Grime

Google up in oz only - Transit V6 Conversion , all your questions answered, theres a couple of oz forums that come up also on the benefits of converting especially with the comode auto. If you buy the conversion kits available ,they cost a bit plus the engine and trans. When my epic craps itself or I just cant stand going slow anymore ,thats what Ill be doing only with an Ecotech mated up to a rodeo 5 speed, the conversion is easy theres plenty of room and engine and box mounts arent difficult, If you live in NSW you have to have an engine the same year or younger so Ive heard.Mate Ive put a 289 in a 60s Thames van, 250 in a mk1 transit, 427 in an F100, a Magna 2.6 in an L300 This is easy! If you need help give us a yell. Oh by the way I do this for a living
Good luck

What ever you do, keep us informed and dont forget that camera.
I will be sticking in a V6 over the winter, maybe not as big as yours, but theres loads of room, unless you want to move it backwards, then you'll be making your own bulkheads.

The old Commode 3.8 isn't a bad donk and it can make a lot of power.

Why would you go auto though????

converting things is fun....Our Transit was a '69 V4 originally but had a very rough Cortina 200 conversion which we turned into a fairly neat Falcon 250 conversion and is about to be transformed into a Valiand 245 Hemi conversion just for the hell of it....
I have also seen and helped my mate who has had a series of engines in his Austin A40 ranging from a Nissan Vannette 1500 to a Holden grey motor and the current one is a Bluebird 2 litre. Fun, fun, fun......

What part of Ozzyland are you in?

You do realize this thread is nearly 8 years old..??

Have you got any "under bonnet" pics of your machine?...I would like to see it..! A Mk5 with the best part of 200kw would indeed be fun to drive..!

I have a few over heating issues when stationery, even with twin electric fans. Thinking of using racing coolant, like water wetter to keep cooler, heat gets trapped in the engine bay and I didn't want to fit bonnet vents or tilt the bonnet.
Thanks for the compliments 8)
Maybe you should start your own progress thread :D

ta alan , im already using a wetter, pretty much standard practice here due to the heat , and the holden engine is designed to run hot [around 95 C-100C ] i have the twin oem transit fans on constantly and a 14inch fan on a thermo,i may look at ducting the hot air out as down here we have the air intake on the side of the l/h wing .so ill have to re route the intake lower . dunno

G'day, I'm from Downunder and have a Holden V6 conversion in a 1999 SWB Tranny and have a similar overheating issue when stationary but a more serious problem is that the Tranny diff (4.56/1) is a mismatch to the V6 so the fuel consumption is excessive. So what did any of you do to compensate?
But hey what do I know, I'm only a gardener!
