RUST ON TRANSIT BODYWORK

Postby g10wmo » Sat Nov 01, 2008 8:43 pm

HI
Does anybody else on here have problems with rust on their transit vans ??
Just turned 4 year old, bought new, rust started showing within a year in the semihigh roof joints. Complained in local FORD garage on every service but always fobed off ie NO TIME TODAY, BODY SHOP TO BUSY. LAST 12 MONTHS van has deterioated badly 1 inch hole in side panel of van , Underneath of body badly corroded , in seams , chasi rails etc. milage under 40,000 . :(

oh they're all like that, sir. think about their target customers......most fleet operators keep them between 3 and 5 years and then write them off against tax, the harsh reality is there is just no customer led incentive to make ford make them last any longer than that

Thank you Mr LDV!! its strange that the van everyone loves to hate is so worthless whilst lating decades of abuse with only cosmetic rust through that abuse. - transit still drives better

Ford (not the agents) treated me the same about rust on my Focus - me and my dad had been buying fords for years but we've both changed cars to none ford and would not think about another rust bucket ford car-i expect it on my 1979 transit it's part of the "fun" of owning it but not a few year car- their get out was it was caused by trim rubbing the paint off (both doors and tailgate) and trim is only covered for 1 year (and there's tsb's on the problem/how to fix)

Rant over (better out than in)

FORD would learn a thing or two from the likes of RENAULT with A GALVANISED CHASSI. Know of a few traffic + master vans with high milage with only stone chip rust showing , underneath not waxoiled + as good as new.

The focus is galvanised but when its done by ford the poor fitting plastic trims rub though it and rust apears from under trims - so the plastic causes the rust=not covered by 12 year anti-rust

Ford wouldn't make any money selling you a new van every few years if they did that though would they.
