Mk6 steering wheel position adjustment?

Postby aln101tf » Sun Feb 08, 2009 12:25 am

Hello all, I find the driving position in my Mk6 53plate has the steering wheel a bit to far away from me when the seat is set to get a reasonable minimum legroom. I wouldn't have said I was a funny shape  so I can't be alone in this. I was very surprised to find that the steering column appears to be not adjustable at all. Assuming the column joints to be telescopic, I had a look to see if I could alter the clamp positions a bit, but the design doesn't lend itself to this very well either. Fitting a spacer to the wheel might be possible but that would make the switchgear difficult to reach.
Has anyone tried to resolve this problem before with any success.
All suggestions appreciated.
Alan

Hello there how tall are you? I am 5 9 and have adjusted the base of the seat, tilt forward / backwards to help find a very comfortable position.

same here, tilting the seat is also how you alter the height of the seat :!:

That's why i like to drive the good ladies fusion as it seems to be a better seating position than the fiesta, and other cars that Ive drove.

Can't fault mine either, love driving it, 8) 8) , I'd say it'd be perfectly possible to adjust the position of the column mount to bring the wheel either down or out, or both by a few inches, though not really advisable.

5'9" shortarses  but seriously, discussions on my height aren't really helping. I'm 5'11".
The seating position is generally good, and comfortable, but I would need to have the seatback about vertical to get my hands at 10 to 2 with my elbows bent as they are supposed to be. This would hardly be comfortable.

Gosh, does it adjust, I wondered what those two levers were for   Of course I've tried adjusting it

It was a genuine question as you never mentioned about any adjustment of the seat, plus for all we no the 2 handles could be missing so it might be a case of short arms then.

Ok start again. I wasnt asking for a vote on whether there is a problem. I already know there is. (for me anyway, even with my fairly long arms), I was looking for ideas on how to fix it. :)

OK, due to crash tests for cars etc, does anyone know if you could transplant an adjustable column designed for this purpose from say a mondeo as this could be a nice mod for the van, more wiper speeds and wheel plus keeping the safety aspect.
