Does anyone have a spare 5.14 pinion they're willing to sell for a few quid too ?

I have a 2000 new shape Transit 350 2.4 di! The grear axle/ diff is making a real loud whirring noise all the time. U can hear it right till i stop, it makes like a near enough slight grinding noise kind off. I know its on the way out. Would changing the oil help it? Im worried because i have just bought the van and dont want it to fall off or whatever it does when it goes....

I used to have a 1980 Mk 2 SWB Tranny with tailgate, and sliding cab doors, and full metal bulkhead, notably with 6 stud wheels. L/H threads on L/H hubs. The dish in the wheels looked like about half the dish in Mk 2 twin wheels and almost 1/4" thick steel. Ex RAC with genuine 8 ply tyres (as opposed to 8 ply rating). Served me well for about 7 years. The back axle must have been a strange one as the brake shoes were enormouse, and it could stop in inches even loaded, it often felt nearly as good as air brakes. It never let me down even when I 'forgot' to add the antifreeze after changing a hose and it froze solid one Christmas. New core plugs and antifreeze and away it went. Poor old thing just rusted away from my neglect. Only problem as such was getting spares, nobody stocked the brake shoes so I had to wait two days for relining.

I've made the interesting bits bold to help your editing :D

Anyone know what differences in type 51, 6 stud single wheel from Mk1 (1976) to later years, reason being I'm selling a Mk1 with a modified diff I had built in 1982, Chev. 12 bolt center, 2.73/1 ratio all other parts standard transit, van is only good for parts so I wonder if the rear axle will fit later models.
Currently on Ebay (Australia) if anyone's interested.

haha nice to see this

iam thinking of doing a swap

ie my 190 6 stud 15 inch wheels

my plan is to chnage the axels from a 120 swb mk5
to a 190 mk4

only thing is i know it shouldnt be a problem changein the log book to the down rate axels but what do i call it

ford transit lwb 100 or ford transit 120 lwb

as i dont know if i want to keep the 190 leaf springs or put the 120 ones on

and a other question does the rear hand brake cable and shoes from a 190 6 stud axel fit a 120 5 stud axel ie i just put new hand brake and shoes and brake pipe and brake cyls in my 190 axel if so i will defo do the swap :!:

front hubs not a problem as i think from a 5 stud hub to a 6 stud was just the disk holes that changed? altho i not looked in to it yet but will do :!:

cheers rob

What has that got to do with axle ratios :?: :?: :?:

And could you perhaps reduce the size of the pictures so they don't take a week to load :?:

The post isn't just about axle ratios, it's about useful axle information.
