Transit 05 Plate Cigerette Lighter Not Working HELP please

i have a ford transit 05 plate van . i was using an air compresser via the cigerette socket when it shut off. i have looked at all the fuses they are fine. just wondered if there is a relay or something else thats blown. any help would be great as i need it to charge my Tom Tom. when i apply 12v to the lighter socket via a battery it works fine i cant figue it out Cheers guys.

It probably is a fuse did you check both fuse boxes

i tried the fuses in both boxes. i just want to cry.i think it needs a professional

its probably the unit itself (the lighter part) try another part in they are about £6 or so easy fix even I managed to it !


ps is the compressor working on another ciggy lighter socket as it could be the compressor !

It could be the air compressor. How long were you running it? Some have auto shut-off to prevent them over heating. Should work again after about 15-20 minutes cool down time.

its not the lighter socket that works fine when i put 12V via a battery. their must be something else thats stopping it working. HELP

If you are referring to a 2005 model, here is the fuse layout for under the passenger side dash compartment which holds the cigarette lighter fuse. Fuse 73, 20A (yellow). Only trouble I have is that the fuse box in my 2005 model is actually off a 2004 model which is altogether different. Try this layout, and if it helps, good. If not I'll try to find the 04 layout.

Did you actually remove and check every fuse

yes i have removed and checked every single fuse both in the glovebox and engine bay. its driving me mad. i have even disconnected the lighter socket and put a multimeter on the in coming cable there is no voltage with or with out the ignition on

yeah nothing else is wrong at all its so weird mate

Have you checked the actual socket for voltage? If you have a supply to it, then there is no reason there won't be a reading across the terminals. Have you tried another accessory in the socket like a phone charger?

the socket works fine i have tested it with a battery, but there is no power on the in coming cable

It's fuse number 50 on the diagram posted above which is a 10A fuse
As I have just had the same problem and solved it with help of an electrician and his tester
