Mk7 2198cc TDCi 130hp and 140hp engine breaks the pistons

Postby nanonet » Wed Jul 20, 2011 12:11 pm

Hello everyone,
I kindly ask you a question
Here in Italy is experiencing a lot of broken piston engine 2198cc TDCi 130 and 140hp. In many cases it is necessary to completely replace the engine, sometimes it is enough to fix it. Ford warranty covering the costs involved (ranging from 5000 to 10000 euros), but several times is the customer who is to bear the full costs. It seems that this is a serious design flaw, which affects the fuel injection system or pistons, but Ford has not officially announced anything or made any calls. I personally after 30000km I had no problem, but now we are all very worried and do not know what to do. Some of you have information about it? Any answer is appreciated. Excuse me if the subject had already been dealt with, thanks and sorry for my English

As i understand it the problem is stemming from the injectors. My belief is that the problem is avoidable (fingers crossed) provided that owners pay attention to any symptoms. There are 3 obvious symptoms that the injectors are not what they should be.

Noisy,especially when cold.
Black smoke
And the improtant one, oil sitting round the injector seals in the rocker cover. This points to blow by of the copper washer at the nozzle of the injector and this can cause watering down of the oil.The airfilter box needs to come off to check the centre two injector seals but i recon its five minutes well spent now and again.

This is my second 130,my last had a new engine at 80 odd thousand miles but i didnt own it at the time so i dont know what Ford put it down to.Ive taken as many preventative measures as possible with this one and hopefully ive avoided the problem with replacing the injectors as i had all 3 symptoms and the van at the time had done just 50,000 miles. It now runs like a sewing machine.

Thanks guys, you were very kind to respond.
I learned that sometimes the engine failure is advanced by a rapid and uncontrollable increase in engine speed. At that point you can turn off the ignition key, and who has tried to brake very strongly recommended without removing the gear, so it can be shut down immediately to avoid the worst damage. In all ways the damage is already high. I can confirm that most of the cracks occurred on the 5-speed versions 130hp, 140hp 6 speed versions rarely on. In many cases, Ford, during routine servicing, software updates the controller, I do not know if there is a link with this operation, that is if the update provides injection to exclude potential problems, or worse, to create them. Future versions of the Euro 5 will take all the Transit 2.2 TDCi evolved in various capacities (from 100hp up to 150hp) for both front-wheel drive to rear wheel drive, in addition to the known 3.2 200hp. I am sure that Ford understands and has remedied this problem, but we have not understood where he was born, and especially how to prevent it ....

Thanks again for everything

What?
reliability is dependent upon maintenance.
I have a 2198cc Transit 2012. I have done 203,000 miles on factory engine, still original injectors, new glow plugs at 100k and 193k. Engine still pulls like a train. I aim to change the oil at 6k.
