OK latest is this. Have used the van every day for almost a week now. If I turn on the ignition slowly and wait for glow light to go off the immobiliser flashes like mad but the van starts as normal and runs no problem. The immobiliser eventually stops flashing like mad but flashes a 23 code. If I turn the van on quickly ie no waiting for glow plug, the van starts and no flashing immobiliser light, but when under load going up hill it seems to be holding back as if the timing is slightly out, but if I stop turn the van off and restart it but wait for glow plug light to go out, it will run fine, no holding back but with the immobiliser light flashing away.

All very strange if you ask me.

Reviving an old thread as i have a similar issue.
2004 2.4 transit minibus
Only had it 8 weeks 6 of those sorting out insurance & paperwork before driving it for the last 2 weeks approx
All was going great.
Then i noticed the immobiliser light flashing for longer that normal before going off.
Bus still running ok though.
Parked up at home then later that day went to start the bus.
Engine turned over lovely but would not start
Immobiliser light flashing very fast
Tried both the keys i have but still no good
Took covers off around steering column and had a look a black key round bit with wires attached..... Nothing seemed loose or wrong.
Plugged my obd reader in but it would not connect.
Left it a few hours whilst i scratched my head a bit.
Went back and tried starting it again, turning the key slowly & waiting for all lights to go out untill the last click to start & it started perfectly.
Worried now that if i go out anywhere & then it wont start i am up the creek without a paddle.
Filled the fuel up to full tank & have done approx 100 miles short trips & its used nearly 1/4 of a tank.
Does this seem excessive or about right..... Though my old 2001 bus did a bit better than this.
The radio was working fine but now switches on but will not find any stations at all...... It seeks & seeks forever ??????
A seperate problem all together or somehow connected ??

Thoughts appreciated

Ok have found this out..... No idea what it means ????

When i turn ignition on slowly & carefully waiting for all lights to go out van starts ok

When i turn the key more quickly from insert key to start engine the immobiliser light flashes quickly & the bus wont start.
Remove key & start it slowly again & it starts fine ?????

Ideas & opinions appreciated

Fitting a new ignition switch.....
Is it just a case of removing the old one & fitting the new one ? Or does the new switch have to be paired up with the ecu or anything like that ?
Thanks

Not the key barrell, just the electrical part screwed on the back. It comes with a short loom which just plugs in. Takes a few minutes to change, costs about £15 :)
