Immobiliser wont turn off

Hi guys,

the problem I have is the immobiliser wont turn off when I put the key in my transit.The dash board light never stops flashing, and if I turn the key it then starts flashing much faster. If I put the key a 100 times and I'm lucky it might go off once and the van starts.

So my question is this. Could it be the transponder ring around the ignition switch thats at fault or the chip in the key itself. I would have thought that if it was the key it would never work, but like I say every now and then it starts if the immobiliser light goes off. Or is it something else completely. I have had a fault code of B2139 Data Mismatch received. Data does not match, error.

Its a 2002 T280 Transit.

Not sure what you mean by that. Theres only one ignition key, and its on its own ring

leave the key turned on for a minuit and it will flash a fault code via the LED

will come in the form of 2 sets of flashes e.g flash..flash..pause..flash..flash..flash.. repeated

that would be code 23

Ok tried that and this is what happens.

Key out.... steady flashing led
Key in ......steady flashing led no change in speed from key out of ignition
Key in turned once ...steady flashing led no change in speed from above
Key in and turned twice so ignition lights on .... Led flashes very fast continually no pauses.

Its as if the van doesn't even know the key is there until I turn it twice.

When it's flashed like this for about a minute, watch for the two digit flash code

OK done the above, and after quite some time watching the disco lights I got the flash code it was 23.

So what does this mean and what's the cure?

Code 23 is a key/immobilser mismatch, the code is not being recognised between the key and the immobilser module

So whats more likely to be the problem. The key has lost its code or the transponder ring round the ignition switch is stuffed.

The key transponder.

My old one was always iffy, but started and just flashed afterwards, every other time.
One day it just stopped working... New transponder and know more problems.

Try turning it quick and holding it at full ignition till it cranks, may have a second pause, then crank.......

If it's intermittent, I would suspect the transponder or the wiring

My Focus does something similar to this if you put in the wrong key and then put in the correct key, it won't then recognise the correct key

OK thanks guys, gonna go to rip you off Fords and get a new transponder ring and see what happens
