transit ambulance camper

Postby transitambulance » Sat Apr 20, 2013 7:12 pm

hi just befor christmas i brought a 1989 transit ambulance it is a mountain conversion. this has had a early di engine put in it with the original gearbox and back axel. in the back there was a poor effot for a bed and a old wardrobe placed in. The first thing i did was empty the rear. then i have battond all the floor and walls put 25mm rectosil insulation down and tonge and grooved over the top. because the walls are angled both top top to bottom aswell as front to back i have made cuboard units to fit. this has all been stained in various colours and coverd with super yatch varnish.i have installed a zigcf9b charger unit and a mains hook up. i am waiting for a alloy plate to be made fot the roof so i can get my wood burner set up. i also need to sort the sink and plumbing out.
if anyone has any questions or comments please ask. i would like to get hold of some wiring diagrams for the ambulance side of the eletrics there is enough wires to get to mars and back and half dont do nowt. some whales and tails would be even better. check it out on utube under ford transit ambulance camper video creator gogglet72.
thanks for reading dave holbeach lincs.

i have a 1996 ambulance and i must have ripped a couple of miles of cable out of the thing lol. i managed to lose a whole fuse box, all the wires associated with that, and several looms as thick as my arm... it was just work slowly and identify dead cables...

Wow, respect - I wouldn't touch a wiring loom! Knowing my luck I would end up electrocuting myself - not so bad considering it's only 12v electrics you think... but often these things are 24v aren't they? Nah, good luck on sorting it out ambulance and look forward to seeing some pics of it :)

We have a 1997 ambulance which is a nightmare with all the wires. We're novices when it comes to vehicle electrics so wondered how you identified which cables you could safely remove and which had to stay. We only have to leave it for less than a week without running it for the batteries to go flat, so something's not right!
Any help appreciated.
