The 3.5 is the strongest of the Rover V8's....

all larger capacities were bored to 94mm from 89mm but the blocks weren't strengthened as they should have been....

the 3.5 produces 155hp in 9.35:1 CR ratio....

There was a rather unusual Rover V8 made for the Leyland P76 which kept the 89mm bore, but the stroke was increased to give 4.4L.....

The larger capacities are good engines, but more prone to slipped liners, and block problems.....

well I got a 1990 range rover classic 3.9 full system for £25 new but old stock, my mate had a set of manifolds of a 3.9 I found using the offside down pipe on the nearside with a bit of cut and twist and reweld got those twins nice and tight the starter side is another story, I might have to go under the lump and up along was hoping to use fairly later exhausts so I don't have a problem trying to locate at a later date old rrc sd1 or p5 exhaust bits which are getting like rockin h poop

Range Rover exhausts are still easy to get due to the following of Land Rovers :)

The 3.9 manifolds are better for torque with the twin downpipes per side :)

I had to cut big chunk off he bell housing to get the o/s pipe past!

Don't be afraid to do it the adaptor should give it strength still!

Great thread so far mate!

Just connect relay to the fuel stop solenoid wire from pats... Keeps immobiliser then!

hello rob
cutting the bell housing is not going to help me much lol the starter stays on the same side as the tranny im now thinking I might go down under and back up the other side.
interesting thoughts on the fuel power feed tel me more.
latest update is not a lot really busy at work and the sun usally gives me the urge but that's hideing a little to much
so im now on the hunt for another swb as a standin so if anyone has one must be clean and yrs mot on it will need to out it once the v8s in this one

the beauty of using the old diesel stop feed from the pats rim module means you'll retain the starter inhibitor(if still intact) and if you feed a 30A relay(bog standard 4 pin)from the rim module to power the ignition coil you'll have immobilised ignition too 8) 8)

go the whole hog n route all wiring thru steel pipework to stop hot-wiring from underneath or put coil somewhere hard to get to !

oh my , well its been along time sorry for not giving you all an update
it was not good news i took a week off work to fit the v8. engine out and v8 in mid week we had the v8 in ,box back in its standard position had the short water pump on basicly i need to get her back about 60mm because no room for the rad to stay in place and i really didn't want to alter the exterior front of the van so my mate suggested we think again
so back out and di back in then back to work so next stage will be moving that box back which means shortening the prop and altering the bulkhead it is very tite also it did look sweet in their lol take a look
the link is on earlier post
