Thanks CE, oil leak, steering and a leaky wheel bearing (spotted by mutts) due to be investigated on friday. I reckon the bearing gave out after the pothole incident, just hope thats the only damage...was going to recommend wisley, strangely but had no idea what was there...

Thanks CE, they ended up on a technical post, Mutts was searching but i think he drew a blank...MVM tracked down a chap who used to be on here through AlanN (thanks big Al) and waiting for confirmation that all is ok...MB also came up with an american supplier of said plastic clip who i will contact as soon as i am certain of the outcome :) oh the joys of old fords! :)

This was the beast that needed replacing, the old one was pretty worn and a "Client Related Additional Protrusion" bolt set had been added so the cable was too loose and destroying itself...

Ooooh errr - all that hassle for such a little thing! lol

I'm always amazed that something that looks so innocuous usually means catastrophe at some stage or another!

Sorry I've not been online much, have been busy hitting the books - but it's saturday night, and I've had a glass of wine and wanted to try and catch up with everyone on here :D

Was very kind of you and Roy to be so hospitable as to let us sit in your campers both are equally cool in different ways, if you see what i mean
Anyways, hope things get sorted soon.

Yippee! Chief Engineer was here saturday am. The problem with the steering turned out to be the os drag link arms, so they were replaced. 2 new wheel bearings on the front, new to us clutch cable installed from cannibalised pedal box...oil leak down to a small drip. Several bolts tightened, brakes all checked. Then an awesome debate started on the merits of a ss air filter in a mk1 camper! Funny how i think the chief engineer is more passionate about puk than i am now, mmm. However, the star trek references are making me chuckle at the moment, although son no.1 is not impressed with being uhura!

Only 8 weeks to Wales now and have made exceptional progress since the beast that went to Dorset last year. Also have purchased e bay awning and windy break to help with a longer term stay (4 days 3 nights is record so far)

As always, many many thanks to you all who read the posts, checked garages and even contacted the states for me. Without all of you i think Puk would be back on the bay and my 15 year mid life crisis would have been over before it started. :) :) :) not to mention the robbiemate without whom the debate over carbs would have not nearly been so interesting!

Cb radio, handwash heater wiring and alarm wiring next!!! :) :) :)

Puk jacked and up on axle stands, engine cleaned down with gunk, found that the bottom bolt to the petrol pump was loose, so that was another leak sorted but still have a small one to the temp module thingy but its tight. Also found a small screw on the carbs that have made a big improvement on the pick up on the pedal too!

So...for those of you who take this stuff for granted...this was the first time i jacked up a van, put it on stands and did some work on it!!! How cool is that! (rhetorical question for those of you who may think it isnt) i am a very happy chappy :) :) :)
