my '98 swb

Thought I'd start this.

I got my first transit nearly three weeks ago now. It's a 1998 2.5 Di, 80 swb semi high top. It's white (aren't they all?!) and in need of a little paintwork in the usual places, but not all that bad.

So far I've been fixing the important things.

The stereo had been bodged in with a piece of alloy plate. Got a facia plate and fitted my Kenwood head unit.

The power tweeks have been done, and she's running better now.

The usual heater problem was there, so I've fitted a new resistor.

The rear door handle was broken off, so a new one has been fitted.

The exhaust was falling off, so I've had a complete system, and a new tire.

The towbar has been painted and fitted, just need wiring.

THE AIMS

To get the van looking a bit smarter on the outside, paintwork, a bit of signwritting and some wheels are high on the list. I also want to put some marker lights down the side, across the front and rear too.

Inside, I would like to improve the seats, the passenger seats aren't too bad, but the drivers seat feels a bit loose, and is missing an arm rest.

Thinking along the lines of carpeting the cab, and bulkhead, and replacing the headlining. In the rear I would like to line with chequer plate, after putting some anti vibration inbetween. Maybe a couple of shelves, but not too much. Lighting will need to be good in the load space, so that is something to think about.

When it's done, I hope it will look good on it's own, but even better when pulling my trailer, especially at night time

I will post some pictures up as soon as I get 5 minutes and hopefully as I get through the work. Mecanically it seems fine, and the body is pretty solid, just needs a little love.

Well what a weekend! Went out with the trailer on Sat night, got back no probs, then on way to get fuel the cam belt decided it was time for a change :?

So the progress so far is, cam belt and fan belt change, tappets re set correct, so now it sounds a lot quieter

I've also re done the bulk head, well almost, it still needs a bit more work and then covering. I've cleaned the seats, they came up like new on the passenger side, but the drivers seat is still a bit shabby. I've also had a new exhaust all the way through, could do with a service now me thinks!

Next jobs are to get my new wheels fitted 8) and start on the headlining and boarding out in the back. The paint is going to have to wait for a few weeks till the weather is a bit more reliable, then I can get the signwritting done in time for the long haul up to Scotland in June.

Will post some picks soon, I've been that busy I've not had time, but it's starting to look a bit better than it did do when I got it.

Decided to treat the old gal to an air filter, oil change and some injector cleaner. The air filter has made an impresive difference to the running, and the van seems a bit smoother. Just got to change the oil in the morning and the jobs a goodun

Might have a look at refurbing the wheels this week, they've given out good weather, so that will help no end. Once refurbed I can get the tyres swapped over and then the beastie will start looking more like a proper transit

Finished the ply lining and put a bit of sign writing on the rear panels, but not much to see. Took a picture with my phone, not very good, but you get the idea......
