That was the original idea, would give me an excuse to design and produce another Adapter Plate, but, there is no way of installing the engine in the front of the van without first removing the clutch pedal just to make the engine fit, it is just too wide and too long!

But with an MT75 gear knob on the top of the transmission oil dip-stick, it will 'at a glance' look like a manual :lol:

Got a few more pics of 'progress' :lol:

Having removed the a/c pump from the engine, a shorter pas belt was required, in this case it will be easier to retain the original caddy pas pump;
Image

The stock caddy alternator is mounted above the right hand cylinder head, way too high for the transit and it is driven from the water pump pulley, this in turn is driven from the 'smog' pump and the 'smog' pump has to go!

So, a new alternator mounting was fabricated, this places the alternator further down, allowing the bonnet to close!
The new alternator, a VW unit with the drive pulley replaced for a 12mm belt type, (matching the available crank and water pump pulleys) and a 'W' terminal to provide a signal for a rev counter, was mounted on a custom bracket;

Some of the wiring has been connected, the engine turns on the key, the ignition lamp functions as does the oil pressure warning lamp. Threaded adapters have been ordered to allow the transit water temp sender and oil pressure switch to be used but as we will be using the earlier, pre 97, instrument cluster, we need a cable driven speedo, we will have to install the pre-97 water temp sender.

A front bowel sump and matching oil pick-up pipe has been located, probably half way across the Atlantic by now, as the rear of the engine is currently sitting on the steering rack!

I don't think you can call a pile of washers "fabricated" Tim :lol: why not weld a piece of tube on to the top alternator bar to replace them?

:lol: :lol: :lol:

The washers on the adjusting strap are just temporary, unfortunately the old lathe 'spat out' it's gearbox last week, while attempting to 'lighten' a di flywheel!

The di flywheel weighs 21lbs without the clutch, so some room there :lol:

Top hose is now assembled, the joiner is a cheap ebay part with a threaded fitting for installing a fan switch;
