looks like its going to be a bit of a pig taking it out, the exhaust downpipe has to come out as well as the manifold.

The downpipe doesnt have to come out mate :? Just drop it off the hangers and the exhaust will drop onto the floor complete leaving ample room to get the engine out

It should be capable of more BHP but you would need the ECU from a Sierra 2.0s

tell me more about dropping the exhaust out, it looks to me like ive got to undo the spring joint at the catalyst and draw the downpipe out forwards. dosent look like theres enough room to drop it backwards past the bellhousing, even if i take off the manifold... :?

There is enough room, just let it hang down for the moment, when you have all the engine mounts etc undone and start to raise the engine it will come past the exhaust, you just have to remember to reposition it when you are dropping the engine back in.

ok, i think i see how the downpipe stays in place when the engine comes out. if i take it out towards the passenger side, the down pipe should ease past the bellhousing....still tight though.

its 98% there, everything disconnected apart from the clutch cable and the gearbox mount...

got a couple of questions.....

how do i disconnect the clutch cable? cant see anyway to slacken it off..

which gearbox bolts do i undo at the rear? the two on the rubber isolator, or do i need to undo the 4 bolts holding the big crossmember to the chassis as well?

the lower bolts on the isolator block appear to be threaded pins, do i undo these or the two at the top?

many thanks..

Just push the clutch fork forward with a bar and unhook the cable :D

There is a large bolt under the rear gearbox mount, undo that and the box is free to move, dont forget the speedo cable and the reversing light switch plug if you havent already done so

yep all the electrics are done, all thats left is the clutch and the rear mount.

i dont have one large bolt, ive got this isolator thingy, which has a flat bar at the top with two bolts to the gearbox, attached to this bar is a metal loop which goes underneath from one end to the other, and it goes through a hollow rubber block which is attached to another flat bar which bolts to the large crossmember. i guess its designed to allow some free movement but limit the total movement.

the thing is the lower bolts appear to be pins - like wheel studs go into the axle flange - so if i undo these it looks like i'd have to drop the crossmember also, because there isnt the clearance above the box to lift them out of the crossmember.

its an mt75 box btw.

if you look from underneath in the middle there is 2 slots and a 19mm bolt in each. undo them and it will come off :D :D

mine were 17mm

jacked the box up and removed the isolator completely, so it should just slide out.

its all done, just need to lift it out, but that wont be till tomorrow when i have an extra pair of hands.

going to tackle some of the welding this afternoon, and possibly have a go at fitting the central locking.
