not being funny but .... why oh why dont people strip vans/cars properly before spraying

ie: the rubber bug on the rear door hinge, the black rear plastic vent that un clips, the front window surround that pulls off , the sliding door channel??????

PS sliding door channel has been released from behind,alex isnt on the back doors yet and no doubt he wil remove the hinge rubbers,and vents(already taped),and will definately remove window gasket too.

So he didn't bother then with the bungs? Little things like that stand out.
Especially since he has painted over the bungs so when removed there will be a layer of green paint that 'may' crack when the bung is removed. A silly move and a silly price to replace the item when it wasn't needed. Same with the Black plastic hinge surrounds (which simply stick on) will need to be replaced also, but when you remove them now the paint stands a very good chance of cracking.
All that effort let down by a couple of things. Sure you could argue that since the rest of the plastic has been colour coded then they have been as well...ok except bumpers and mirrors etc are usual colour coded items rubber bungs and plastic cover plates are lazy spraying items.
Rant over, the colour DOES look good and a nice set of Alloys will certainly set the van off.

looks very smart i'm not a fan of hubcaps but if i had to have any i'd go for the ones you have, but alloys will look great

hey guys thnx for the replies and rants.

Im glad the topic of spraying the bung has been brought up as i noticed it weeks ago on final laquer but as yet have not said nothing as it does look pretty cool like it is ,but i know what you mean about cracking in time. Im a fair guy and we can all make mistakes ,and the sprayer is having a hard time going through a divorce ,so i gotta give him some slack.If i say something it aint gonna make the matter better ,just worse . I dont think he realised how much work this transit involved until halfway through and with his brother letting him down on prepping has made his work schedule pile up ,thats why its been 5 months nearly.On average a day and a half a week has been achieved until this week where it finally will be ready to start on the interiors,alloys and wiring etc.

Luke as for them hubcaps there sadly gonna be recycled

Actually non Ford colour aside the bungs and hinge surrounds being the body colour are the things that make people shout...'oooh had a respray! How much pudding is in that?' often it is even more unkind than that and the comment is usually 'ugh quick blow over, wait for the rust to come through' The plastic vent in the lower corner can be ignored since it is covered by the bumper.
The rubber bungs I have no clue as to replacement cost but I do know you can scrape the paint off of them, it is where it meets the metal it will look cack. The plastic hinge surrounds are about £2 each from Fords, I need one so looked into the price

Anyway lights are back out now on front and grille to make way for some pods tomorrow .Im also fitting a rear back chequerplate step.I purchased quads from ccm after plenty of help on here aka MPUK thnx mate. They are not the sealed beam units and look excellent as inspected.Just gotta way up fitting em now .

For any1 looking for info on these or just curious then this might help someone.

They come with 4 fglass rings,2 pods and 4 lights.
The rings need drilling 3 holes each (use as a template on pods and drill pods too )
Then send bolts through rings and tightened up and then fixed with heat resistant silicone to the back of the light fitting.
Once cured then offer the lights to the pods and line up bolts and tighten.
Also for adjustable lights it says to use springs slid down threads first wich im gonna do.Dont want the lights to point all over the place.Guess this way you can get em where you want em.

One thing for sure the main headlight screws were tight as f*&# and one is still in place ,gonna need to drill it out

I must say that on opening up box i was scratching my head and thinking this seems cheap but sleeping on it ,it is a very good way of having removable pods. Just hope they perform well.Gonna look for good quality bulbs.

Will take some pics tomorrow of van and lights and keep you guys posted.

Hey thanks for the post mark, you know how to boost someones confidence m8 Nice to have someone see the good side to things and the bad lol. Thats what i thought too . Couple of quid a bung and im still waiting like you say to see if he does scrape it back off ,but if he dont, im not.


As for the spray job , like i said its hasnt been rushed it is top quality paint , epoxy primered 2 pac laqeured pearl finish , being double wax oiled through underneath and back , Has been epoxy primered , the front end is virtually newly replaced with new parts bonnet etc .Only part that worries me is the roof which is stonechipped as it was bad and had welding along seems. Anyway the sprayer has a reputation and everytime i ask him on rust he reckons looking at minimum 5-6 years on this bus , although did say to me,to do what people with classic cars and collectors do with their vehicles.That is to protect em, and bring it back once a year to him to play around with it if theres a problem.I do feel extremely happy myself with the way this paintwork has turned out.

As for the old "oh its had a spray job" well looking at my van most people would probably agree its definateley for the better. Rather it be like this than picture one i posted.I see your point though it bugs me too and rust is one of those nigglers that gives every1 hidden stress elevation and high blood pressure.Its a ghost that hides itself on both the van and the human body.Im not worrying its not worth it .Lifes too short man.

See pictures on this page at top , of rear of van on the hinges . They have been sprayed over. Theres a debate on this . (ugh quick blow over, wait for the rust to come through' .

is that it for f*** sake i thought it was somthing series that hadnt been taken off they look miles better colour coded any way and why the f*** wud u need to take them off some people are so picky

Looking really good, nice chunk of chrome on the front, but you must order some chrome bulbs, get the good quality ones, as the chrome comes off after a short while. Have you done them bungs yet!!!! What about the bulbs, have you done them yet! Well ave ya, ave ya...
