Finally...back at it....
Image
Radiator/condenser and thermo fan mounted...battery tray went away...still don't know whether it will be back. Engine is out again, next up is fitting a MK2 booster/master cylinder...looks to me like the firewall needs to be a different shape

Only got one of my days off to work on van this week because of relatives visiting, but things went easier than I had expected....
Image
I clearanced top of Mk 2 pedal assembly so that it could sit over top of Mk 1 column and bolt to underneath of dash
Image
Then I fitted a piece of Mk2 firewall (with booster bracket outline) to the front of pedal box and cut a peep hole in Mk 1 firewall
Image
...followed the bracket outline on the Mk 2 piece to cut out the Mk 1 firewall
Image
Hit the Mk 1 firewall with a hammer....repeatedly :) until it contacted the Mk 2 piece...Cut Mk 2 piece to close fit and welded..Firewall 'adjustment' altered position of hole for steering column considerably so that rubber boot wouldn't go on...prepared to relocate said hole
Image
Column hole relocated

I hadn't imagined the later model Transit's being quite as rusty...as.....well ....as you've demonstrated they can be......a Mk 5?.....I know to be afraid....Be very, very afraid!!

Finally got around to airbrushing welding mask how I imagined it :D A friend of mine who's done a fair bit of hot rod building checked out my crosssmember and pointed out some places where an engineer would want some gusset plates/bracing..So a little more work on the crossmember...but it's completely finished now ,so time for a different game....................
Image
I've fabricated an oil pick up extension pipe..you can see from where the oil pump is that the pick up was much further forward and it's depth projection was much less....Of course it lined up with the beam axle..hence the mod..Rather than just discreetly relocating the pick up in a conservative way..I have decided that while I am at it, one of those race style oil pans would be cool.

I had a Valiant wagon that would have been great for...I was travelling 400km per week and it was using about 4 litres..got to the stage where I had to pull the spark plugs out and clean them with a toothbrush after each trip to and from work...otherwise it wouldn't start.
