Need some input from you guys.

now i have a black/dark charcoal carpet lining for the rear of the van, do i

A: leave the grey of the cab as is and just carpet the floor in the front

B. Spray the cab black and have a black interior with grey seats

Cheers

Here are some progress pics as promised.....

The seats were stripped and recovered by me :)
I am well pleased how well the floor fits the wheel arches and if you are wondering why the roof seems to be bulging in the middle???? well thats what you get when you stuff 200mm insulation roll into a 25mm space 8) 8)

The eagle eyed amongst you will spot i have treated it to a new set of brake and clutch rubbers. next on the list is to remove the door cards and sound dampen them and stick some insulation material in there too. Then strip the cab out and insulate and deaden that too. thinking about cellotex for the doors as it is a nice set thickness and when i strip the doors and it should be easy to apply.

This van is a learning curve for when i redo my other project van. due back to me at the end of the year. it will be all shiny and fun to play with.

IF I have time i will be giving it an oil / belt and filter service this weekend.

amyways enjoy the piccies :D

Well the things that happen when I'm away from the forum....you've got a whole other project going!.....When you say 'black interior'......does that mean all of that wood panelling in the back?.....coz that would be a whole lot of Halloween going on in there!!

:)
It means the front of the cab to match the charcoal/black carpet at the back of the van. i like the description of a whole lot of halloween going on. i wonder if i can match a name for the van around that

Well todays progress saw new fan and power steering belts going on. an oil and filter change and a fresh air filter.

sunday should see the rest of the insulation going in to the doors and if i have time to match all the locks up. - thats assuming i dont have a hangover  as i am going out with my lady tonight

Firat taste of a real winters frosty morning by me today.

This insulation in the panelwork has paid dividends. i got in the van this morning and it wasnt like getting into an old cold tin shed :) :)

well pleased - go to fit the carpeting in asap and it should be nice and snug

Peace

Made a start on doing the locks this evening.

got the rear door and the fuel tank done, simple enough jobs.... well it would have been if the locks that got supplied had had the correct shaped holes in the levers

out came the circlip pliers and a bit of "making one good one out of two" and the back door now has a working lock on the same key as the fuel tank... gave up working in the cold at 11 this evening and will continue in the morning. from what i have read the ignition lock should be a challenge.

ttfn and more as it happens

Fitted all the new locks today. had to change all the arms on them for the ones that came out. all this took me longer than expected so i couldnt get on with the gearbox and penel loading of the driver/passenger/loading bay door.

At least i know have matching keys on all the locks on the van and for the ignition too :) got to say tho, changing the ignition lock was a doddle 8)

Little tip for you all as its going to be a cold winter.... stick some copper slip in your locks and you shouldnt have any problems with icing up in your locks

More news as it happens. have stopped for the day as its got too cold outside for my old bones  that and i am child minding my nephew this evening.

Have a pleasant evening all

Got rid of an annoying rattle in the gearbox area..... turned out to be a loose plastic shroud on the bellhousing. couple of tiewraps later and its good as again.

the sound damping in the back is great!!! i can actually hear the water from the tyres hitting the wheelwells....... got so quieten the engine bay and drivers cab next...

This looks like a good place to start the reading....viewtopic.php?f=13&t=70797&view=next
Many thanks to the author for this thread 8)

Well it's all coming along......Sound deadening huh?......I used to think that having to yell to the passenger beside me was part of my first Torana's gritty charm.
I feel a little disappointed that a picture wasn't included of the cup holder

Bit of a gratuitous update to let you all know i am still on with the job

fitted an MP3/CD Player to the van today and a new aerial and now looking at what speakers to add to it. i think i will take a set of wharfedale diamonds apart and use them, going to have to work out what the internal voulme of the doors are so i can get the bass tube right, that should be fun and give me a headache for a while

also took the opportunity of having the head lining down to apply some panel loading material to the roof. all these little changes and tweaks make a HUGE difference to the amount of boom and rattle that i can detect - or rather lack of...... got to work out and also try a couple of ideas for doing the door skins in something not bitumen or butyl based..... will let you know if that pans out ok.

fitted some new radiator rubber mounts today and the usual saga unfolded of having to remove the slam panel to hacksaw the old parts off. mighty fun that was when the light went

laters all :)

Well couldnt sleep so did some re-reading of "the silence of the DI"

Tuesday will see the following work being done as it seems from the thread to be the most succesful/efficient way to reduce the noise and vibrations

Load / Dampen the following

The cab floor
The cab inner arches
The cab doors
The ceiling / roof (done already)

Got a blanking plate for the EGR so that will get fitted and the egr consigned to the scrap bin too 8)

The engine compartment will have to wait till a bit as i need the van on wednesday to collect a couple of scooters i have had sprayed.
