got the engine today.... it's only the 85ps....

but at least it's a start, I really wanted the turbo base engine for the better cooling etc...

going to add a decent inter cooler when I install it... can upgrade the turbo/injectors later on :-)

A good little intercooler is the Mitsubishi one....

as fitted to Shoguns, Pajeros, L200s, Delicas, and possibly others.....

Not a bad size, and cheap.......

Unless when you say decent intercooler, you mean a HUGE front mounted one

Who needs a grill

Just have a big intercooler there.....

Thats just reminded me of a small car I saw......

It was an old corsa with the 2.0L turbo engine....
Probably went quite well to be honest.....
BUT the owner called it a sleeper vehicle......

Not sure how he reckoned that......the front bumper had been completely cut up for the big front mount intercooler that stuck out the front! :O

sorry, don't want to hijack this thread... but it seamed like the best place to ask....

is the standard transit interooler from the 115ps model any good ?

I was thinking of fitting an aftermatket one... but I'd rather keep it subtle and there's not a lot of room there for that!

going to get a set of 130ps injectors (soon), and a bigger turbo (later) but I'm not going to push it that hard... tbh 130ps would probably be enough for me...

Yes the 115ps intercooler isnt bad :)
But.....if I remember correctly, they used a different radiator to allow clearance...

As for room, if your talking about subtle as in looking standard from ouside then a bit of thought can work wonders....

The mitsubishi intercooler mentioned will fit in front of the radiator if you carefully trim the back of the grill....
Looks standard then :)

If you have a local scrapyard, go and raid it for boost pipes....
Land Rovers are a good bet as they dont use long lengths of rubber hose, instead favouring metal pipes and rubber jointing pieces....
Most of my boost pipes are land rover ones :)

I might just get one from the 115ps transit then...

I was thinking of one something like this...EBAY LINK

mounted infront of the radiator, with the pipes running through where the 115ps intercooler goes

I don't want anything too big, or the turbo lag would kill me, I don't want to race... just want a nice kick when I pull out to overtake, and for it to pull well up hills etc...

Nothing too big then

Thats a little bigger than the transit intercooler :P

There isnt a huge amount of room in front of the rad.....so you'd need to check a 3" thick intercooler would fit.....

The 300mm height as in the link will just fit between lower edge of bonnet and x-member, the width will fit as you have the narrow water rad, (no a/c), but you will have to 'trim' the back of the grill and most likely loose the grill supports!
I have a/c and will be fitting 4 inch core, so the grille will go, as will the top edge of the bumper!
Why not use end to end intercooler and run the outlet up by the injection pump to the top of the inlet, use the type in my pics :D
Lag will not be noticeable if you get the fuel in early enough

I noticed these on ebay the other day.....

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-SLIM-Inte ... 0521237114

2.5" thick....

Might just fit without trimming of the grill....

that would be more than big enough for a transit unless you have a huge turbo
they also do a smaller one:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NARROW-Interc ... 0571998878

Which should be enough for a standard size transit turbo!
its still considerably bigger and more efficient than the 115ps intercooler.....

Hi people, not had chance to do much to the 'Chucklebus' for a while, Mania and a few Petrol engine conversions having taken priority.

I have managed to secure a Chargecooler from a 6 cyl Jag 8)
The plan is to alter the inlet flange where it would have bolted to the Jag head and mount this on top of the Di engine, pictures below;

I will revert back to the original 'Turbo' inlet manifold and plumb in the Chargecooler in with hoses, this will allow it to be removed so as to gain access to injectors and for rocker cover removal.

An independent cooling system will be used, the header tank will be mounted in the engine bay using the DOHC tank, a remote cooling pump and a separate radiator.

Just took some pics of the Chargecooler 'propped' on top of a Di, still not sure how to connect it to the inlet manifold :?:

Do I;
Weld it directly to the turbo manifold, the simplest solution, BUT, this will result in the need to remove the Chargecooler and the inlet manifold in one 'lump' to gain access to injectors and rocker cover and we all know what the lower manifold to head bolt is like for access with the injection pump in place!
Weld on a pair of flanges, one on the Chargecooler and one on the inlet manifold allowing the units to be un-bolted somewhat like the two 'halves' of the banana inlet.
Weld on a hose outlet to the Chargecooler and connect to the front of the turbo inlet manifold with a 'U' shaped rubber hose, again allowing the Chargecooler to be removed independently of the inlet?

Any thoughts gentlemen?

where you've cut the 6 ports down to 4.... why not cut the rest of them off so you have a long slit like a letter box

and then weld on a wide length of pipe with a slit cut in it the same... (one end of the pipe open, the other closed)

and then use a host to take the air out the front of it and into the inlet manifold ?

it might be a little more restrictive... but it shouldn't be enough to matter ?

a bit like this
Image

also means, you can mount it anyway you like, doesn't even have to be fixed to the engine ?
