Image
One shifter..too wide to fit between seats
Image
So chopping time
Image
Goes for this bit too
Image
Shaped it a bit with the 'lathe'......angle grinder
Image
Some new thread on the round bit
Image
Though seemingly unprofound...it's now relevantly narrower for fitting
Image
Change of lever angle...too lazy to weld fill,drill/cut and file.....so I just rotated the fitting point
Image
Shifter set up at raw, crude concept state
Image
....fits between seats now
Image
Solid linkage shift mechanism menagerie
Image
Linkage set up reversed linkage travel direction so it had to be fitted below pivot point on gearbox....factory attachment point would have been an unworkable angle so I added a bracket to change that

Now I don't think I ever mentioned it but the big side passenger door pillar was somewhat damaged....so I removed it ( I did post an engine shot that showed the pillar missing).....Transplanting a Mk2 pillar and the hinge locations are different so here's the Mk2 to Mk1 pillar conversion.......
Image
Here's the plates that lurk behind the pillar skin....plus fill ins that I have cut out
Image
I extended the factory plates with some steel sheet....so when in their new location the old holes have a backing plate in place for my fill ins
Image
Welding in the fill ins
Image
Minor rust repair
Image
Out with the reofill.....seems I missed a step in the pics....the filler on the side of the pillar (Hey that rhymed) is where the internal structural thingy for the door hinges was relocated and plug welded in place
Image
Etch primed........Slight interuption in pillar work as Toni wanted to do stuff on rear doors and they needed hot work first......Did a whole bunch of edge repairs....Just showing the one...........
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
........and that's one repair..layer by layer

Image
Sort of forgot to weld this door retainer thingy in place.....Well I remembered as I was prepping for the etch primer but with limited time before going to work I decided to seal the bare steel and come back to welding this in
Image
Onto the job...all plug welds replacing the original spot welds......
Image
..........except for the door jamb side that tacked butt weld style then swiss cheesed.....
Image
.....and weld overlapped with a 2mm thick backing plate plug welded in place
Image
Door in place on new pillar

And now onto something different.....this is all about a certain crossmember that I removed because the bell housing occupies the place where it was.......
Image
Image
Floor coming out
Image
Weeding the unwanted bits off a donour crossmember....this is a full blown Transit crossmember as found behind the drivers seat...not like the skinny one I cut out that is forward of the front seats
