.. not much progress....! :(

Postby dipstick » Tue Jan 09, 2007 12:41 pm

... the weather has been awful up here, sideways rain, gales, things falling on my head... so i haven't made much progress recently.

I fitted and removed the engine/transmission unit OK, measured up for the new ex manifolds, but have just found the timing chain tensioners/guides are wrecked (BOB motor has two cam chains....) so i have to pull the timing cover off, to re-do the cam chains, guides tensioners etc etc... :( :(

when it stops raining i will venture out, start the fuel water and oil pipework plumbing....and try to source a rad that will fit, DOHC/Pinto one seems to be the right one...?

cheers all ..... :)

You will want to get them done ASAP mate, I had a chain snap cos the tensioner broke up, nice motor but when they go bang they are a nightmare to pull apart and rebuild :( had 3 valves go with it and they werent cheap either :!:

Today has been sh1t, the wind is blowing right down the drive, so i can't get under the van without a face full of crud.... :(

.... i have had to get new cam chain guides and tensioners (FPUK are recommended, good service and almost reasonable prices ...), I made a crankshaft locking tool, to hold the crank at TDC while i pull off the crank pulley and the timing cover to replace the tensioners/guides.... hassle hassle

still, it might not be raining tomorrow.....

:x

Cheers ...... :)

It is a paint mate, but if one snapped and took the valves with it you would be crying for real I can assure you!
Chin up mate, you will sort it :)

.... i have been trying all day to get the timing cover off, everything is off BUT the cover, i made up a crankshaft locking tool, locked the motor at TDC, followed all the Tech manual, took all the cover bolts off, but the cover refuses to budge more than 1/2 a mill...... ?

... on the Fordpower_uk site some BOB experts reckon there are some wally traps to catch the unwary..... ... has anyone taken the timing cover off a BOA or BOB 24v ......... :?

cheers ........... :)
