If I retard any more I can't move anywhere. The metallic think is now a quieter rhythmic knock though, if I add more mix it has the same effect as the retard. I have no idea what to do next if the knock needs to go now. I don't think it's tappets.

Pinking sounds like a light rapid metallic random rattle, usually only when you are pulling hard under load and the engine is warm backing off the throttle should make it go away.

A light rhythmic knock sounds like it could be a description of tappet noise, they might have settled down a bit now the engine has been run a while after it has had that replacement head.

I would say post up a video of what it sounds like BUT after seeing a video of another pinto that sounded so bad I wouldn't have trusted it to get down our road - then hearing it in real life and finding it was actually once of the quietest I have heard, it might not be that helpful...

What outings have you got planned?

Pinking sounds like chains being shook by a ghost in the engine. More fuel or less advance!

Thank peeps, I've got it as best as I can now...too much gogo juice makes the tappet noise, too little makes the pinking, there is a tiny moment of opportunity in the middle that seems to be the quietest :)

Wales is the big one this year, Snowden zip wire and then some belly boarding hopefully on the west coast :)

Our 2 dont go tax free till april 2018 if its still running then.
1 misses by a few days the other by 3 weeks.

Was just going to connect it to engine coolent and use dash heater but ended up making it stand alone. Sorted wiring just need to plumb it up.
