MOTed and ready for progress

Postby BigMonty » Thu Aug 02, 2012 7:42 pm

Got the old girl MOTed today. Time to start work.
Bought it last year from camperman and its been a cracking van, earned its money back and then some.
It is Ex police, covered 37k in its life time. Had to do a tiny bit of welding, new exhaust, front discs and pads, exhaust and a set of windscreen wipers. MOTer said its the best he had seen in years. ( but I bet he says that to all the boys ).

Havent go a clue yet what to do about the side damage, got a door skin from minormatt ( he did say he would fit it but had run out of duktape ).
Plans ??
Looking for inspiration

Oi!

Duct tape is only for running repairs... not panel replacement

I have a complete (sill to gutter) rear side panel - but its mine :P

The whole panel replacement is a bit above me at the moment, got my game together enough to get her throu a test, but I need a tad more practice on the scrappers before I have a go at cutting and stuff.
I'm hopeing the side panel will knock out.

Pity about the bodywork... You going to keep both sliding doors? You wont have a lot of room for structures if you do :? Roof looks in good nick.... Get a sky light in before anything else

You could put some cute lttle windows in the back doors :) You looked under the boards yet? Good luck with it mate :)

First time I have seen this thread

Got the makings of a good van there.

Get it down here and I'll wave my 'magic wand' at it

If the hammer doesn't go through, or not much, your holes maybe are small enough to make do with patching so you dont need a welder :D This is what I've used for my small holes cos I couldn't find the Vatican in the shop:

Thanks for the offer Tim. If I was a bit more local I would be over like a shot.
Not going down the camper route with this one now. Just a day van that I can get the bikes in and do the markets and craft fairs in the summer.
Managed to score a welder off one of the Latvians at work today for 20 squid. And another 20 squid to one of the works engineers to give it a quick overhaul and get it working properly.
Never welded a motor before or used a mig so this will be a bit of a learning curve. Done. A lot of work with an arc welder in the past so hopefully I should get on ok.
