Rover.

The card backing is a bit wharpped, so Im hoping that can strip off the cloth and fit it to a thin ply copy. Not sure what to do with the speakers now... I did find some more panels for the rear, but not the sliding door and the other bits have big speakers in, so Ive kept one for material repares.

they are exactly the same as the granny ones, except they are mounted the other way round on the door cards, on my cossie the tapered end points forward.

mmmmm, got a bit to catch up with here

personally, i think the thing with the black grill is that theres so little else thats black to make it tie-in with the asthetics,
but there again it will loose some of its essence if its sprayed to colour code it,

maybe answer could lie with going a grey metallic of some shade?

i'm having similar thoughts regards going over to a cossie,
strange bloody van mine, engines running 100%
despite the weight added since initial drive back when collecting it @ circa 80mph
im still pulling the same top end now,
but god damn it's slow getting there,
slightest incline kills the speed dead
recent trip out cruising @70 officer hit slight incline and down to 45ish

70mph    yer, right with my axle, its sounds like a meltdown in the cab at that speed  but does the same thing, even after unblocking the fuel line, really slows down on the hills... you know its bad when fully laden tippers go by you

Brought a couple of sets of plastic vaccum formed sideskirts the day after the Ace meet, just have a play with. Cheap enough at £15, so if all went wrong, I hadnt lost a lost a fortune.
Not much about to fit a transit these days, well any days infact, but the idea being to cut & shut 2 together to give the right length, besides, I seem to be getting a dabhand with plastic of late. Offering one upto the sill, I had to start by shaping the top edge to fit the curves, plus I didnt want them stick out too far from the body, so trimed them down with a power plane.

I cut off the tail end, ready to accept the extention made from the second skirt, at 45 degrees, like you would coving or skirting board. I then just held the 2 overlapping parts up against the van sill and pull the two sections together and marked with a pencil. A quick chop through with a hack saw and done!!! I used a short section of waste to reinforce the inside, heating it up with the hotair gun to stop it from changing the shape of the outer sections. Just off to get some plumbers glue, so hopefully I'll have some done this afternoon.

Ok, very funny
Finally bonded all the sections together with plumbers glue and they are now both the same length. Jointed up with bumper fill, great stuff, planned off some more plastic from the edges to reduce the profile and managed to flat one down and primed before dark... Just a matter of working out how I am going to attach them to the sills now, Id welcome any ideas there, Ive got one in mind, but you may know better.

Just basic universal ones from eBay, looked a loads of 80" fibreglass ones, but they had flutes and bits on them, a bit too modern for my old '89 van

Thanks Luke, but I might be sticking them on with bluetack at the moment, the backs are hollow and are designed for a car sill!!! Im thinking of making a plastic block to fit all the way along the sill and fitting the side skirt on to that!!! Not sure if thats the right thing to do or not

Are you going to add them to the bottom of the transit sills then? If so you might be able to make a few metal brackets that would reinforce them a bit, and that would stick out at the top to fix inside the original sill? What sort of ground clearance would that give you? Might get in the way if you have to jack the van up for some reason...
