Customising my smiley recovery truck!..the story so far!!

Postby DieselRox » Mon Jan 21, 2013 1:55 am

Hi all!! Bought this Mk5 in August last year and have been working on it as and when spare time allows!! It had been stood for two years or so.The dreaded tin worm had well and truly set hold :( :( On the plus side it came with Air suspension, was a new winch with remote, and new body :D :D before it was laid up as it was no longer big enough for ferrying vintage tractors to and from shows  Got it home an straight away booked it in for MOT and it failed on a tyre and rotton body work, drives really nice and seems mechanically sound........So it was time to drag my welder out!!
Image
Image
I removed the body to gain easy access to the chassis as this was on the hit list lol(Diesel and Roxy doggies there for guidance :D  )
Image
Image
Had some plates made up at my work, folded into U sections and welded them onto the chassis at home
Image
Image
I bought a Pot blaster and blasted the chassis at home, took a while, and sand media went evertwhere!!
Image
Ready for c400 indutrial primer
Image

Primed then 4 coats of chassis black(no pics of this)

Proceeded to fit new inner, outer wings,inner/outer sills, arches and steps to both sides! Bought an air Joggler which proved very handy for all this lot!
