Offroad MK3 Camper

Postby axxez » Tue Aug 27, 2013 10:22 pm

As my old Tranny died due to an accident caused by a drunk idiot who nearly killed me (see viewtopic.php?f=27&t=100079&start=30), I needed a new van as there is no chance to recover the old one.

Just some short specs, more about it in the future.

MK3 100L 1990 2,5L 52kW Diesel
Ambulance-Edition:
- Airride in the back (+/-2cm lift/drop)
- high roof
- big wheels (215R14)
- leaf springs all around
- independent vehicle heater
- low ratio axle (top-speed 115 km/h, which sucks a bit...)
- fog lights
- loud horn

Liking that, never seen those cubby holes for the radio space. Genuine Ford SVO air suspension 8) has it got 270 degree rear door hinges

The early mk5s had the cubby hole for the radio space Al - maybe its one of them?

For sure the Transit! Was thinking about a Volvo, which is a nice street-car but I wanna travel as well.
I am not sure if this cubby hole is original.. It's Ford of course, but the space between radio and ashtrey is completely open(ed). Maybe it had special ambulance radiocommunication.. The doors are 270 deg., yes :) A bit crazy and I will use it for an outdoor sound-system probably.
Only thing annoying is the speed... 90-100km/h, 115km/h vmax - and no power at all! Need turbo. Anyway, I had a great festival weekend in the van!

My ideas till now:

Ah, damn: mistake! On those two ideas the shower and the cooking will be switched. So shower in the left rear corner.

Further isolation. Gaps will be filled with foamspray, the holmes are filled with rockwool.

Excellent thread. That is one nice van - going to make a brilliant camper (and Mk3 too)!
