I went for the ones that were already in it! I am guessing they were matched for the 10.5:1 as per the original engine, the dish looks about right. Bear in mind that I do everything on a budget and most of the time there isn't one!

Alternative engine nearly built, wheel arch repaired, just awaiting 3 head bolts that were not in the package the other day and then it should be all systems go.....

Just returned from Luxembourg ... paid 1.19 euros per litre! That is about 97p per litre in proper money ... not much dearer than 'red' in UK.

Ok, the replacement engine has been fitted and phew, it doesn't smoke. It has taken all day but at last we have a very healthy sounding V8

Just back from a pleasant trip to the MOT station (passed!) and then onto Ashford and now back. A couple of things really, I need to tighten the alternator belt and cut a couple of extra holes in the bumper to let a bit more air through, seems to run a bit warm. But I can now attend to the carbs and timing at my leisure... Hit 70 on the motorway and we were weighing in at a shade over 3 tonnes with me and a Luton full of rubbish.

Changed the tubular manifolds back to the old iron ones, makes it a bit quieter and they actually fit. One was cracked anyway. Holes cut in the bumper for extra cooling. Discovered why I thought the axle ratio wasn't great... the rev counter got switched from 8 cylinder to 6 cylinder somewhere along the line meaning the revs were reading 1.33 times higher than they were in reality.

After 5 trips to France as a 3.5 litre the gearbox decided to play up, 5th gear becoming very noisy... If I have to change the gearbox let's see if I can get an injected V8... A 3.9 was available on ebay still in an XR4i just up the road.... so I bought it and it has gone in a treat. There are a few differences to the 3.5, this being the intermediate serpentine motor, better oil pump and retaining a distributor.
