Postby Gtitom » Thu Apr 02, 2015 12:36 am

Hello, thought id start another project thread. Havnt been on here to much since my last transit was stolen after alot of work i put into it :(

Heres a quick picture...

Fancied a spec for awhie now and this came up at the right time on ebay. Bought it blind tbh. Ive seen and heard the stories of these breaking their chassis's, but i dont mind a bit of a project, and the back can always be swapped over to something newer.

Fitted with a 2l pinto, which will be coming striaght out and a 2.5TD going in...

So it made the 200 mile return journey, im sure the pinto is a good option for your regular transit, but a terrible choice for a weighty spec lift, has a 3 litre carb fitted, cruises fine at speed but really badly lacks any torque, so hills can be interesting.

Tested the spec lift put once i was home lifted a 1600kg volvo v70, the rear squatted very low and the front end came right up, combination of weak rear leafs, and im hoping the extra 100kg of the TD ENGINE will keep the front end down a little more. I fitted the extra aero wheel to the spec and dropped the volvo back down and it sat alot better but not perfect....

Very impressed with the transit undernearth surprisingly in good condition, and most of its orginal equipment came with it and working!

Roll on the TD ENGINE....

Picked up a 100 ps ldv engine on saturday, long 6 hour roundtrip and had to remove the engine myself

Its fitted now, but need to get hold of some mk3/mk4 di mounts, run the return fuel line, and finish up the a few wires.

Its got the bosch 146 pump on it.

Got some small bits of welding to do before it goes for mot, and i either need air bags or a new set of springs because once a car is loaded its sitting on the bump stops.

Was only on ebay a couple of hours, put a depo on it as soon as i saw it!

Engines now running, loom done, new down pipe fitted, still waiting for engine mounts, but they should be here in a few days time.

Bid on these on ebay, should be collecting them tomorrow, give the old leafs a bit of assistance.

Had a lazy sunday, so not much progress to report, got 1 air bag fitted, need to finish off the top bracket, and the passenger side is going to need the brake pipe t peice moving slightly.

Quick vid showing it working.

Always love a good spec lift :)

I had a crew cab Bedford CF myself last year -was a very handy weapon.

Your engine mounts should be with you on Tuesday.

Hi, can you give us some more information on the air (suspension) bags?
Where to buy, what you need to mount them etc.
Our Transits (ex ambulances) are upgraded with air suspension shock absorbers.
Needless to say, we are worried if they ever go bang...
Good quality shock absorbers and air suspension bags could be the answer.
Writing was not invented to look for spelling errors
