2004 Mk6 Euroline - another transit to take care of

Postby maciejd » Sat Apr 18, 2015 7:05 am

Hello All.

For the last couple of years I'm doing everything, to keep my old friend Mk5 1996 Di alive (viewtopic.php?f=27&t=89169). And it is alive with one remark. Longer trips (long for me -> more than 500km one direction) are a true nightmare when you want to take the family with you. Noisy and slow.
Of course I can use regular passenger car, but you know, todays family wagons are everything but not cars you can pack with 4 people and luggage for two or three weeks. Not working, simply.

What to do? Why don’t you buy a Transit! So I thought, so I did.

Here it is, 2004 125 tdci, SWB, low roof, LHD Ford Transit Euroline. As per my research it has true 150 400, and last 1200 is driven by myself.
And it so looks like. Not smoking until I drive in “pedal to the metal” mode, quite clean. Paint refreshed couple of years ago, here and there scratches. Generally no rust, but someone did the wheel arches when refreshing the paintjob. Not a top-quality but definitely put some heart and money into it – even the Euroline stripes are made.

Chassis is generally rust-free, here and there surface rust, just need cleaning and protection. Only right side over rear axle looks worse, have to weld it proactively.
Interior complete, needs solid cleaning. Not devastated tough, just a little bit dirty.
Electric windows, front/rear manual AC, webasto, windscreen heated, electric mirrors. Tow bar 1800kg.

Todo (first version, short one, hahaha):

- Chassis – rust protection
- Bodywork – here and there corrections
- New stripes (I’ll make custom ones)
- Steering power pump and water pump (the first one leaks a little) – to be replaced.
- Front fog lights
- Cleaning inside, full
- Something is really noisy over the roof liner on a bumpy road – have to check.

That’s all.

More pics to come, here a couple taken when getting back to Poland.

I've never heard of a euroline, but it looks like a nice bus!

Is a 125 a TDCi?

Yeap, it's a tdci. I know it will be pain the the a** when coming to injector and pump repair but... these last for 150-250 kkm. I'll do it once, I'll never make another 150 kkm in this van :)

Euroline base is regular Tourneo which is ripped by Westfalia (http://www.westfalia-mobil.net/) and made on their own way. 3 or 4 (depends on buyer's needs) rotating seast in the front, rear triple seat that can be converted into a bed. Table, refridgerator. Really nice and I always wanted to have one. Maybe one day I could afford for a brand new one ;)

Today it was the maintenance day. Oil, gearbox oil, all filters. Finished tax/custom papers and finally registered the car!

I know nothing is better that a photo to take a look at, so couple of photos how does it look like on the "other side". The fight with rust will begin in 10 days. Thankfully it wouldn't be a long war.

It's not perfect, but yes, pretty good condition. Sometimes 3-4 years old are worse sometimes.

These are very comfortable - after over 1200km of almost constant driving I felt really OK. Of course, I was tired, but nothing like backache or something.

Shame we never got the Euroline over here, as it makes an excellent day van :D
Was thinking of converting my MK5, but it wouldn't work out as all Euroliners are LHD  :|

Your MK6 is excellent and as long as you change your fuel filter on time and with the correct "TDCI" one (which looks identical to the "TDDI" one) then I can't see you having any problems with the injectors :D

Andy, I think there were RHD (at least) Westfalia Nuggets - http://www.westfalia-ford.co.uk/brochur ... ct2009.pdf, however the sliding doors are on the right side. I think the same will be about Euroline, so practically not-convertible in regular UK van case. Until you are not scared of modifying plastics. Not worth the work I think as not-driving Mk6 Euroline still costs 2-2,5k EUR. You can buy quite decent regular Tourneo in comparable money.

Regarding the injectors - I heard there is a problem with the pump itself and after ca. 200 kkm small metail filings from the pump are destroying injectors. This way or another - if it wont happen, even better. If it happens... it is calculated. If I'll be doing 40-50 kkm per year, it could be a problem. I'll do 10-15 kkm, so... I can live with that :)
Of course filters, oil and whatever is dedicated for tdci :)

Two brothers :)

The difference: 8 years and 377 000 km.

Cannot wait when the Mk6 will go to the body workshop and will be done. Then cleaning time will come as well as some addons (new stereo, reverse gear camera, foglights, new carpets...).

I'm not sure what you mean by same as Tourneo :? Our Tourneos are simply low roof minibuses (with a semi hi roof option, rare) and registered as "cars" or MPVs (up to 8 passenger seats)

I just wanted to hilight that non-driving condition Euroline which might be a donor for the interior will cost same money as Tourneo in really decent condition. In my opinion - considering the amount of customizations this way or another - it's not worth the effort and money.
