Mk2 Transit twin wheeler.

Postby mac276 » Tue Apr 18, 2017 10:21 pm

Since the mk7 transit electric pickup project I completed last year I've been toying with doing another.

This time a mk2 twin wheeler.
Registered in August 1984 on a B reg and was new to NEEB, North East Electricity Board.

The van has been stored since 1997 but still requires the usual treatment, both front spring hangers, some work on the bulkhead, cab floor, rear number plate panel and 1 or 2 smaller areas.
All the doors will either require replacing or if I can't get a set then the original doors completely reworked to get them good again.

Fitted with a 2.5 di and a 4 speed gearbox with overdrive.

The plan for this van is to go alongside my restored double deck bus which is an ex Tyne and Wear pte bus.
I hae attached a photo of an ex Tyne and Wear PTE service van so I plan to do a replica of the original van (except my van has a side door).

Pictures here are of the van before it was moved at the weekend to my unit.

This is how I'm hoping the van will turn out..... eventually.

I think I know this van, wasn't it bought about 5 years ago to use the front end to repair a welfare bus? It belonged to a bus preservation group at the time?

That is correct mate.

It was bought to rebuild an ex Northern general ford transit minibus, B207GNL.
Sadly it seems 207 is way too far gone and so I was offered the donor vehicle.

Front is almost completely stripped ready to start on the rotten areas.
