My recent purchase. Trevor the Transit.

Postby Mark (Trade) Morgan » Sat Oct 14, 2017 11:00 am

This is my Transit mk6 (Trevor the Transit) I bought it very cheaply with the intention of building a campervan so me and my 7 year old who has autism could travel. Buy cheap buy twice!!!! Apart from the front wings it didn't look too bad! How wrong could I be??? No wonder it was cheap!! The stripdown revealed horrendous rust issues!! Luckily I weld so repairs are coming along quite well. Due to the cost of panels exceeding what the van would be worth I've made my own repair panels. I've made new inner and outer sills for both sides. Door steps for both sides, inner wing repairs both sides, chassis work, etc, etc! The only new panels I've bought are front wings! All the welding on the drivers side is now complete with just the passengers side to do now. Although it's still mot'd I'm going to put it in for another test when all the welding is done.

Good work, the ability to weld is always handy if you own a Mk6, particularly if it's Southampton built :P :D

Too right mate. I think Ford should have given away a free migwelder with each mk6 they sold!

I spent almost as much having welding done on my Mk6, as I did buying it originally  Luckily, it was ultra reliable, and cost virtually nothing in repairs in the 4 years that I owned it.
But it's now gone, before yet more welding became necessary  but it still looked fairly good from the outside :)

Yes, thankfully it's mechanically excellent! It's had almost 3 grand spent on the running gear in the last 4 years.
