Grotty Transit to Belle of the Ball

Postby V8_Bodge » Thu Nov 02, 2017 12:42 am

I have started a thread to motivate myself into doing something with the Transit.

I could do with information on :-

Changing the front suspension to independent and lowering the van.

Converting it to a stealth camper with swivel front seats.

Brake disc sizes, single smiley to twin wheel Mk3.

How to load an image direct from my computer.

It's a manual with a 4.1:1 Mercedes Sprinter rear axle so nice gearing with the 1.2:1 top ratio.

Runs on LPG with an internal cylinder tank so not too bad to run every day.

nice one :D - i take it those are ex-twin wheel springs? i'm wanting to do the axle conversion on my mk1 lwb ex twin wheeler - ive put a regular mk5 transit axle on for now but i like the lower gearing of the sprinter axle

if you want to do the front ifs conversion being a mk3 yours is easier - ive done it to mk1/2 vans but if you get a mk3 swb (not mk4 or 5) front end it will all just bolt up the only thing you will need to fabricate is the front subframe rear mountings as the lwb's didnt have them on - i've done a thread on here with some info and i seem to remember a member did a mk3 ifs conversion too :D

Yes it was a twin wheeler, it's worth doing at 70 mph it sits at 2200 rpm.

I take it the SWB Mk3 has a steering box, I was hoping to fit a Mk5 to get rack and pinion steering.

Does the LWB van have bigger front discs than the SWB?
