brush painting with Rustoleum

Postby adamandy » Sun Aug 26, 2007 8:25 pm

Being inspired by dragon and others here on the forum (thanks guys!), I have almost completed brush painting my van with Rustoleum Combi-Color, see few photos below (just first skin, not yet flattened, not yet polished):

Thanks, guys! The cheapest CombiColor is here
http://lawson-his.co.uk/scripts/product ... I%202.5LTR
usuall they deliver in 1-2 days.

I have done a lot of mistakes (in some places it is got terrible). If I would read more expert advice before (see below) I would got it right from the first attempt.

A lot of good links are here (unfortunately I disovered this site after I almost finished painting)
http://wiki.80-90.co.uk/index.php/Body_ ... r_painting

however they recommend rollers but I think brush is better. My main mistake was that I did not dilute the paint with thinners, so it was hard to
make good finish. On the site above they recommend 20% thinning. Do not know if they are right or wrong, probably diluting is good if you do with rollers. However -- I did not dilute because it says so on the can, and guys from Lawson (who are selling the paint) told me so. May be becaue if you dilute then you will get less rust prevention cause concentration of chemicals drops.

Pluses:
1. you do not have to paint the whole van in one go
2. rustoleum is super UV resistant (the most UV resistant paint on the market)
3. prevent rust, 3-in-1
4. very hardy (two weeks after finishing one side of the van i managed to scratch a tree with my van, just small marks left, the paint was almost intact)
5. it is very cheap -- the whole van with 1-2 cans, so the whole job in less then 50 quids including brush, tape, sand paper etc.

Have you finished painting your van mate?
What you had done up to the pics you put on were really impressive. Image

I hope you gave the new owner the paint to finish it.
What you did on it looked really good for brush painting.
