There appears to be a bit missing here !
It must be on the floor with the rest of the dust.

Novel use of a road sign - dont think its quite thick enough.

A bit of welding required here.
Thankfully the chassis forward of the rear springs is pretty good, or it would be a debateable repair.

Now onto the other 36 holes - and the traffic sign !
But thats enough for one day, you always seem to run out of welding gas on a Sunday.

When we bought this van - the first thing we did was drive a sierra onto the back of it (to check it would fit) - it did, but it showed the rear leaf springs were beyond retirement.
After seeing the extend of the rot around the rear spring hangers (as shown in the pictures) I cannot believe that it held the sierra at all !!

At least the 6mm plate being used to repair it will out see the rest of the van so we can fix it and forget it - as for the road sign - I dont believe what people will do to save money. - There was some side boxes on the van under the flat bed, which were clad with old road signs -- thats fair enough - but the chassis ! I cut it off like opening a huge tin can !

But thats not all - this van started life as a petrol and was converted to Di - a popular conversion - accept the propshaft was "cut and shut" with some pretty poor welding - not only is it shaped like a banana, it has obviously broken at some point and stuck itself through the cab floor - which was covered over by just the rubber floor mat! - a bit more welding to do !
Good job it was cheap and at least the engines good.

yeah, nice work, good fun welding thick stuff isn't it. and yup, i always run out of stuff in the middle of the night or at weekends too.

as for the road sign, did you find that they must have spent more time tidying off their botch job than it would have taken to fix it properly in the fist place ?

nice looking springs too :D

Front spring hangers are a bit rough aswell !
I've patched up the drivers side but the passenger side was replaced.
Rotten as it was the old one was a bugger to get off completely !!!

Every time you think your done - you find stuff like this !
I've replaced the drivers wing and outer wheel arch - so that side is done.
Only this and the pass wing / wheel arch to go.
