Mk5 Rust Fixing [Pics]

Postby hdegroot » Tue Oct 09, 2007 8:18 pm

Because someone destroyed my post i do it all over again:

My mk5 looks good in the pics but if you look closer you can see rust coming true i also noticed it is going faster every year, so i started with rust convertor and a screwdriver and some sanding paper:

Moisture gets stuck between the rubber and the steel causing the rot.

And one wheelarch the other side is without rust. note: one of my rear wheel arches is rotting too

chipped away all the pain that was bubbling and applied the rust converter. Friday i will start painting it...have to go to school first

also i got 2 new wheelcovers!

good job mate :D i use a sanding disk on the angle grinder to get all the surface rust off then use the kurust/rust converter - not sure how good the stuff is, its difficult to say but i always figure its better than none :D

you have caught it in time and its best to do what your doing to keep on top of it 8)

Started working on the sliding door strip by spraying ML Tectyl from above
Image

So that it ended behind the sliding door strip...then started again with a screwdriver and cut the rust away and applied the convertor

Glad to see you're looking after it :!:
That rail looks as though it'll have to come out for a successful repair :!:
Isn't it held on with small nuts from the inside :?:

Shame about the door :(  Tell 'em they can't use it anymore :P

Yes it feels good that i am keeping it in good shape, i am not sure about the rail but i will remove the ply on the inside to have a look soon.
