Gday, Dean from Geelong, Victoria Aust. 1980 van

long time coming i guess, but here is the story so far with a couple of pics.

Deans T5 Crossflow Ford Transit van Project

Gday.
not sure if much progress will happen, got the CBFs lately.

heres a few pics and a bit of a story.

here it is as i got it, 5 slotter Mags have been strange on ebay of late, certain types came on some Valiants and they look similar to these ones, if they are, then theres a good chance they will go for $300+ and if so then i'll be selling them after i make sure My PRO STAR Mags fit and look as good or better

currently the motor runs on 5 cyls, its been on Lpgas for a while and its the early motot that isnt a Alloy head, so fair chance its got a burned valve. it goes really good still, and i MAY consider just fixing the problem, i have a couple of spare alloy head motors, but will need to find a single barrel manifold so it fits in the engine bay before i consider the engine swap.

few imediate things i want to fix are:
slop in the steering box(hoping it can be adjusted out)
blinkers not self cancelling(might be able to find another working setup rare?)
heater/demister fan not working(could be simple?)
sealed beam headlights are utterly useless, need a relay at minimum, i have some globe type Hellas to fit also.
rear left wheel bearing seal or something in there is leaking oil badly(maybe brake fluid, hope so... easier to fix)
has water leaks when it rains, not ugent being summer, but will need to be done
gotta get the rear side door to open from the inside, it doesnt have any internal mechanism yet.
then i want to find a folding rear seat setup so i can have maybe 4 or 5 people on board.

oher than that, just get the RWC issues fixed then i can start to customise it to My liking

heres a couple of engine bay pics it has 2 engine bays lol.
has a SAAS pod filter, with a gas ring plumbed in just before the carby, running a LANDI gas converter
also has an XE dizzy being electronic doesnt need points.
plenty of room for a Turbo down the track or maybe an airconditioner compressor and condensor.

well, just did a compression test,
when i was removing the spark plugs i was thinking maybe number 3 was a bit oily, but Number 1 is the problem,
i started with number 6, it had 150psi, 5 had 150, 4 had 160, 3 had 155,2 had 170 and number 1 had 60psi.

i am gunna remove the rocker cover next, but i doubt i'll see anything amiss here. heres hoping for a split rocker or something.

no, nothing amiss here, so its out with the motor i think.
i will first reassemble the motor and go for a Road worthy inspection, incase it wants too much work other than the engine.
see what happens then, be a few weeks away still

Well, i ran out of time today, but i planned to get an unregistred Vehicle permit today,

so this time next week i should be getting it in for a RWC, then the motor will come out and an alloy head 250 will be going in.
and whatever is needed for Rwc will be fixed providing its not overly expensive to repair.

had someone photoshop some 12 slotter on, lol they are a bit big so i stuck a set on the left side, looks ok, but there has to be a better looking combo.

Bet you forgot about this beast.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, last week i got My unregistered vehicle permit, booked it in for today for a RWC, the Buggers are charging by the hour now and it cost $150 for a check WTF? Not happy Jan.
they reckon it takes a long time for a propper check and if they dont get to repair the car(well theres ya problem lol, i fix everything myself.)

anyway, i'll be making sure they wont be getting any more buissness from me without me shopping around first.

What did they pick? LOTS (a mate of mine has My wheel nuts and 2 good wheels/tyres)

1, carbon canister not hooked up
2, pollution vacuum lines not connected/PCV not fitted
3, EGR not connected
4, LHF tyre bald
5, RHF tyre different size
6, RHR tyre bald
7, tyres need to be light truck rating, (needs investigating i think)
8, wheel nut missing LHF
9, adjust steering box
10, front spring trailing shackle bushes shagged both sides
11, LHR spring rear shackle bolt loose
12, oil leaks from rocker cover
13, LHF shocker mount loose
14, wheell nut missing RHF
15, wheel nut missing RHR
16, front flexible brake lines perished and not secured to body and rubbing on steering arm
17, Rust RH door pillar inside wheel arch
18, instrument cluster lights not working
19, Rust LH door pillar inside wheel arch
20, LHR axel seal leaking
21, RHR wheel cyl leaking
22, tighten battery
23, wiper marks in windcreen
24, rust in windsreen surround LH lower
25, number plate light not working
26, demister fan not working
27, knock in steering column
28, steering box mount loose,
29, indicator self cancel not working
30, FAILED BRAKE TEST (probably due to diff oil all over LHR brake linings and drum)

WOW,.
they didnt pick that the handbrake doesnt work lol.

so seeing most things are wheelnuts and tyres the list isnt too bad anyway,
i'll chip away at it here and there hopefully have it RW by about May when My falcon sedan rego runs out.

What's a carbon canister? Nothing too bad there. Spring hangers are pretty standard stuff, Also, our Mk2s don't have the EGR....

carbon/charchoal canister absorbs evaporated fuel fumes to My knowledge from the petrol tank i think, and probably burns it when the engine is running due to vaccuum, i dont know exactly how it works

Exhaust Gas Recycler sounds wierd too, just rules, makes no real concern to me.
