Oh yes 8) Cheers Mutters

They're nice Alan, very nice.
Let me think, cost of banding, cost of tyres, cost of mk3 axle ... £300? ... er, no :(
Looking for some 205s to go on the back though, if I can find some cheap enough.

Fitted the replacement drivers door weeks and weeks ago,
but had difficulty fitting the old lock barrel into the new door.
Basically, the clip that holds the barrel in place is a right f***er to get on.
So, I decided to juck the barrel and order an aftermarket central locking kit.

3 days later it's arrived, and I fit the drivers door solenoid and wire it all up.
System works, but won't operate lock :(
A little research reveals that they're not suited to cable operated locks on Fords :evil:

So for the last few weeks I've had a hole in the door
and worrying when someone's gonna break in to it :(
Well the theives round here must be crap, cos nobody has (thank fook).

There's a thread in the 'how to' section on this site on how to fit these,
but it involves stripping the lock apart and binning most of it, and the pics are missing :evil:
so was as much use as a paper raincoat.

Today, I took out the mechanism again, and found a way to make it work :D :D :D
So I will post a photo here of how I've done it.
Very happy to have remote central locking :D
and I can now get on and plate up the lock hole for security :D

Just read on someone elses thread that LEZ 2012 doesn't affect minibus' with less than 9 seats.
Already changed my log-book to 6 seats a couple of years ago,
so went on LEZ compliancy website and checked my reg number ...
and it came back as COMPLIANT 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
I rarely drive in London, but my friends and family live in Sth London,
so I can still visit them in the bus after all :D Chuffed

How to operate Mk5 front door locks with aftermarket central locking :
I have taken multiple pictures because they're poor quality;

Once you have the lock out,
drill a hole here, a fraction larger than the solenoid rod;
(you will notice i have a spring missing cos this is an old butchered lock...LEAVE YOUR SPRING IN PLACE)
Image Image

Bend the top of the rod like this, but as tight a bends as possible,
so that the horizontal part is as short as possible;
Image

Then put it through the hole;
Image

And it should end up in this position (but through the hole);
Image Image Image

Now fit the solenoid somewhere underneath it.
At first I got the solenoid position slightly wrong and it didn't work perfectly,
so I moved it 5mm further down and it's now spot on :D

A picture of mine installed, looking at the assembly from inside the door;
Image

Then to fill the hole where the lock was...

A piece of steel, about 40mm square, held in place by an magnet;
Image

Welded round the edge, added some in the middle to reduce the amount of filler
and help the filler stay in place, and ground back;
Image

And finally, a bit of hammerite to keep it dry until filler and paint finds it's way there;
Image

Passenger door and rear door to do now 8)

Central locking kit's called CYCLONE. Highly recommend it.
Glad to report that it's still working perfectly, and I installed the passenger door parts today.

Hope these photos are of extra help to anyone doing the same.
It took about an hour and a half to;
remove handles and panel from door and destroy the plastic lock enclosure
drill out 2 rivets for the seemingly pointless lock support bracket
remove barrel, then lock mechanism
drill hole for bar and bend bar, drill door for solenoid mounting,
attach them together and install back into door,
remove speaker, rubber door conduit and footwell cover,
route wiring from control unit, and put everything back.
Just rear door to do now. Side door lock is to stay...

...unless anyone's got a set of sliding door contacts up for grabs? :wink:
