Screaminkiwi Ambulance Camper

Postby dachre » Mon Mar 30, 2009 9:19 pm

This is Screaminkiwi's Ambulance Camper.

The first pic shows how it looked when he got it...then a couple of others up to present day.

Screaminkiwi says,

The ambulance is more or less done now..flames are on..back door windows have been blanked with upvc panels, body has now been done in graphite grey vinyl with a great big tribal graphic on the back doors..and silver flames along the bottom of each side..oh..and set of 4 angel eye spotlights on a pod on the roof.

Thanks for posting them Steve...it took me so long to try and post the pics of my last van..an ex BT lpg tranny..that i changed the van for the ambulance giving up on the pics !! Duh :o) The body is done in vinyl wrap..so good thing is, if it gets scratched..i just put on a new piece of vinyl. Still unsure as to what to do with the cab..may go silver..and within next week or so, putting a " Black bonnet bra " from Van X on, with a big silver tribal decal to tie in with the one on the rear doors. Also looking for a pair of universal roof bars i can attatch to the roof at the back, as i,ve got a neat alluminium roofrack from a 4x4 i used to have..main problem is the roof is all glass fibre, as of course the rest of the rear body is, so will have to be careful putting a rack on. The strobes which are still in place and working ( along with the siren :O)..will be relocated under the van to illuminate the ground...at shows..honest officer ! Until a few weeks back..still had the paramedic emblem on the back and sides..but i changed the wording to "paraletic" :o) got a few laffs at the lights..all and all it gets a few looks..i,ve always been a bit " off the wall "....fancy a fire engine next :o)

Thanks peeps :o) Just wanted something a wee bit different. Had a swb tranny before but wasnt enough room for what i needed it for. I have a small business trading at bike rallies/shows, so as most weekends i,m at an event somewhere, needed something a tad warmer to sleep in than a metal box !! so thought, with ambulances being ready insulated n all..plus love the bodyline..got me one ! It ex Edinburgh Mastif..i take it you,ve some connection with them ? And being an ex city one, had never had long journeys, so only had 62k on the clock..ok..i have a couple of times been just getting off to sleep, and thought..how many folks have pegged it in here !!!..but never had a visit :o) Working on the interior at the moment..sold all the kit on ebay, and where the stretcher was, down the passenger side, i,ve built in a single bed with lift up lid, so loads of storage under for my smaller stock..the side door didnt have access to the back, but was a storage cabinet for bodyboards, gas tanks etc, so opened that up..have put an ikea kitchen unit in, behind drivers side of bulkhead, with a small sink going in there, and have added a row of side lockers along one side, as strangely it had none..15" tv going on a partition i,ve put up at the end of the bed..and other than that, just a fold down table..again Ikea ! under the side window. I,d love to kit it out more, but need the space for stock and fixtures..marquee etc when travelling to an event, but once there and unloaded, makes for quite comfortable accomodation. Will get round to getting some interior pics on....oh..the front and rear strobes, which are still all operational..as is the siren..oooppss..i,m going to relocate underneath the van, which will illuminate the ground when at a show !! The light pod does look well i must admit breakdown biker :o) i,m trying to incorporate as many of my own lines on it as possible,as i also do LED driving lights etc, so when finished it,ll be like blackpool illuminations. Only problem i,ve had so far..apart from so many bloody electrical ones ( fingers crossed now sorted) have been the odd leak..the rubbers went on the side window, so replaced that with the flush glass one seen in the pic ( plus the other one had one of those emergency pull thingys on it..so all any scroat wud have to do was pull the little ring and the window would fall out !!) and the side door I cant seem to adjust correctly, as theres a slight gap at the top, so in heavy rain, it comes in..plus the pop up roof, i,ve tried so many things to seal it..but water finds its way into the channels and eventually leaks in...but am taking that out, and replacing with a sheet of smoked perspex which i,ll bond to the roof...but an ongoing project, which does get some looks !! all a bit tongue in cheek...but never been one for normality....cab is pretty much standard inside..was very clean, and of course, as theres an access door into the back, doesnt have the 3 seats..but as mastif will know, has a few extra bits, like map reading light, fold down mirror on the roof, which im going remove and attatch a small 7" dvd screen to for when i,m parked up..and best of all, has a full VDO DAYTON sat nav system, which when fitted would have cost around £2k ! more than i paid for the feckin van !! So pretty happy with the old girl..watch this space :o)

Meant to add..after it retired from the Scottish Ambulance Service, it went to a film company..so its actually a retired actor 8) !! has appeared on both footballers wives and the Bill !! It was then bought by a private ambulance company who cover outdoor events ( see first pic) who i bought it from having seen it at a bike rally i was doing. So when i sell it i must add that little bit which may add about 28p to the value :D

Will get a few done..but at the moment its just really an empty shell, apart from where the stretcher was ( that went on ebay for £90 !!..i had it on there for ages as a stretcher..no joy..then decided to put in the words bondage and fetish..and hey presto !!! ) i,ve built in a single bed, with hinged lid, have just put in an ikea sink unit, with stainless sink going in soon, and fold down table..but as i use it to carry all my kit about, need to keep the fittings to a minimum..next step will be to have the cab sprayed either silver..or a burnt orange ! which will look pretty good next to the gunmetal grey. And have just found some lengths of stainless steel handrails on ebay, which will make very good side bars !! will have some LEDs put in first as running lights. Yep..the Ateam have a lot to answer for !!
