Mk5 Camper project - 1st time transit owner

Postby noobrider » Wed Apr 01, 2009 4:46 pm

Hi Everyone, been reading the boards for some time now to get an idea of what I'm letting myself in for. I'm a fairly competant mechanic with no experience of Transits or diesels so I'm on a steep learning curve.

Picked up this Mk5 for a paltry £600 with 11 months MOT. So far in the first 2 days of ownership I have Repaired all the arches. They weren't too bad so only used filler. Completely degreased the cabin area as it was used by a Motocrosser who obviously didn't know what hand cleaner was so all the plastics were black.

Replaced the battery as it was a dud but she drives like a dream, plenty of power and no strange noises or smoke. It was a TD but the technos here have advised me that it has been converted to non turbo with Bosch pump.

We have some big plans for the bus so I will share the build on here as we go.

To start with the matt grey finish will be changed for a nice deep Blue, (still trying to pursuade the Mrs that racing stripes are a good look. The paint is on order and hopefully will be here for the weekend.

We are having a full cream leather interior and the material has been ordered and should be with us in the next couple of days so the trimming can start.

Some wheels trims are whizzing their way to us so these should tidy things up a bit soon.

Need to fit an air filter and a new fan belt so will get these sorted in the next day or so.

I'll post prgress piccys as we go along

They do it in dosens of colours inty, it has been featured on here once or twice before... A lot of the vw owners where using it an cutting it back etc to a fantastic finish. They had a video of it being applied and about thinning it out etc, but i cant find that of hand

well I wanted to colour code the bumpers but with a roller you have so much control over where the paint goes, hardly any masking and no need to strip, touch up the edges with a small paintbrush
