Mk5 complete refurb

Postby CH1 » Sat Jun 05, 2010 7:09 pm

I am going to completely refurb my mk5 70ps swb semi high roof with twin side loading doors. Its getting new front wings, new front arches, new rear arches, new rear corners and a full respray. Already started work on the under side, I have needle gunned all the rust and crap off and have primered it and it is going to be under sealed. I am going to remove the seats and rubber mat and paint the cab floor. Here is some pictures of when I bought it

The van has no tax but is still mot'd till December so my plan is to get it all finished and put it on the road for the 1st of August.

More pictures it follow

Update. I have removed the seats and floor mat, I got a wire brush attachment for my angle grinder and wire brushed the floor and painted it. Now just have to fined where the water is coming in :x

going to clean the seats with a carpet cleaner. Also going to pressure wash the rubber floor mat. Going to leave the seats out until the van has been painted because going to spray the floor just for added protection.

The worst bits are the rear corners, already cut the rot out of the floor

galvanised

The other side is just as bad
Here is the outside rear corner

nice job
just one tip
clean the new panel up to shiny bright on the edges too so the mig just flows like hot fat
dont be afraid to run with the weld as you will be finishing off with a grind and a smidgeon of filler anyway :|

The rear floor is now finished, just a bit painting to do.
Started work on the outside rear corner

Next thing to do is take off the side loading door runners to plate behind them as it is badly rotten.
Also going to under seal the complete under body of the van before it gets painted and put wax oil into the chassis.

More pictures to follow

well this is the progress so far.........
Image

after cutting the drivers side wing and front arch off we found that the step and inner sill where fooked
Image
Image
Nothing a set of new panels wont sort
Image

The rear arches are about complete, just need flatting back
Image

Image

We have just started work on the sliding door bottoms, will get pictures shortly
Considering the van is only 10 years old and has only covered 121000 miles it is needing a lot more work than I thought. Well, it will be worth it in the end............its a Mk5 8)
