It's the same procedure as fitting a new cambelt, with the addition of disconnecting and removing the pump when half way through :!:

Hellooooo, long time no seee! I'm back to report John Lewis went to Slovakia and back again, and ALMOST made it without major issues    On our way back to UK my alternator belt went (not a big problem, right?) and invited the bonnet release wire to join the party, so there we are, about 300 miles from home, kicking the bonnet opened on the AA rescue road just off the motorway, on Friday evening!!  There was an AA guy and he was helpless, couldn't get the bonnet opened either. So after consultation with the experts here (thank youuu AndyG and MinorMatt Image) it took 4 (read FOUR!!) German car mechanics mere TWO HOURS to get the bonnet opened and cable tie that broken release bonnet wire back to place  And after further 10 minutes that it took them to fit A belt (it was random belt from their bin, first one that was visually ok and sort of fitted lol) we were off on our way again and home that night 8)

NOW, they did find the reason for the belt failin, believe it or not - for the third time in my life with Transits, it was those bolts holding the alternator that screwed me over! I blame it on the poor bolts, but really it was human factor in it of course. I had oil and filters changed before the journey in a very special garage   (they needed to use a welder to change the oil, it's like there is no more WD40 in this world - I'm not even goint to go into it!!), and they probably left the bolts on the alternator loose after getting it out of the way to change the oil filter. That'll teach me! I've lost one of the bolts for good about 10 minutes before the belt went, at that time I thought it was a stone I heard, but must have been that bolt! (we were playing "hide and seek" with MK8 Transit with UK number plates - it was quite fun!!  ). Now I'm in need of this bolt again with the nut (I have a temporary replacement, but would like the proper thing if anyone knows of one :( ) - this is the long bolt underneath the alternator

Image

and this one too - the one on top of the alternator that adjusts the tension.

Is anyone breaking a MK5 Transit?

And how are you all? :D I miss all the dirt and rust and welder, I hope to see you all at Transitmania

Are you coming to Ford Fair Nada :?:

I replaced that long bolt, with two shorter ones, (one on each end of the alt), and they haven't come loose since

Helloooo Al :D I don't think I am, I totally forgot to call you to book us tickets too (Andy even reminded me, but I had so much work I couldn't find 3 minutes and then it was gone from my head!). Maybe we'll come in a car for the day, we'll see what the ticket situation is :D Joh Lewis is far from show condition anyways, poor thing  But I am really wanting to take Emilie camping this year, so if it's not soaking wet raining, we'll be at Transitmania :)
