Guy... Man, I knew I reconised bits of your van! Running stock steels through me tho! Plus I was shattered from work, sorry didn't intentionally ignor you...

No real progress worth writing about, altho I've got to re-do the flooring, my fault, I rushed laying the cards down, didn't allow the solvents to escape properly, this has resulted in a bubbles over time, so ordered another pack of cards and will re-do it next weekend or so...

Thankyou for all the cool comment fellas! Helps keep me motivated!!

haha, yeah I remember the Isis truck at halfords, hey, my turn to your van look cool at your work! as you probably know we borrowed one of the transits...

ok, so... when originally planning out my van I knew I wanted a poptop, searched high and low, even nearly flew to Germany to purchase & drive back a westifila converted van! anyhow, stumbled across a mk3 poptop the other day... it was on ebay, failed mot..
4 days left, already up to £500, but I knew, I WAS WINNING THIS VAN!! haha
I did have a price in mind, but that soon was ignored  and, I did win the auction, just a little over a grand, perfect!

now, a complete U turn!... I have no intentions fo restoring or getting the autosleeper back to the road, I'm going to strip it, the U turn being? I'm going to use the entire camper conversion for my van, I'll just ad my own little touches along the way...

so, this means...
No.1 my interior thats just about finished will be up for sale, unit is ready for paint, if.. anyone is interested? and acts quick they can choose the colour :D included would be the bed (frame all freshly painted, decent cover on the mattress but really be nicer if it was re-trimmed) the cooker, grill and sink unit built and ready to install! and even the fridge at the right price, itself brand new! (their £350 new!)..

No.2 parts off the Mk3 autosleeper 'frisky' will be available, well, everything non camper will be, if that makes sense haha

cheers again

WOW  That's quite an investment for parts!
But for all that you'll get from it, well worth it :D

yeah, it's a decent chuck of change for sure, but, as you stated way worth it, westi poptops alone command up to 500 euros, been doing a little homework on these autosleepers.. turns out their pretty well specked.. haven't got it home yet but I can't wait :D

hello all, I'm so terrible at updating this...

here goes
so, 1st up, pop top...
Image
Image
Image
Image

one big hole... now, like a prat, I don't have any pictures of fitting the roof, but heres some of it fitted...

Image

Image

Image

with the poptop fitted I cracked on with the interior

installing the loom, oh my days this was a mission, had to keep it complete (loom from the other camper) because it was made mostly from red electrical cable, it has a control board thats very complicated...
Image

I re-carpeted the interior, I wanted to use black vinyl, but my GF stated it'd would wreck easy, carpets harder wearing..

Image

this is a 'full' trail fit, I'll be removing the interior again in the new year for a re-trim, new lights etc

Image

Image

I don't keep the van at home due to the other toys/cars I have here, posh(ish) area, limited parking etc, so its difficult working on it, but, I have a loose plan, get it solid this year, use for a few breaks away, paint next year, this won't happen, but hey, got to try haha

I started at the front, new wings, home made steps etc, its amazing how these things rot!

my bezzie chris (@auto-PROJEX) gave up his workshop for a weekend so I could get the front end sorted

[/a]

Image

arches were flaired and rolled, not prefect, but that'll be sorted when painted

Image

heres a couple of pics of the steps I made from recycled metal when I cut the windows out

Image

Image

I'm hoping... one day, I'll stop finding this sort of thing?
Image

I also fitted the rear adjustable spring hangers, they work prefect, highest setting is great for use when camping with the family, middle setting as is the previous photos, lowest setting is LOW.. great for shows etc, I will need the slightly notch the chassis tho, Iv'e started the front sub-frame mods, that'll allow about another 60-70mm at the front, again for shows, I'll have a 2nd set of springs to swap in....

interior additions, got some new full length curtains, blinds etc, I recon they set the interior off a treat..

Image

Image

also got the bunks back in, not that I think they get used but their so cool..

Image

Image

changed a few lights inside etc..

Image

Image

and a few more interior shots..

Image

Image

see how the bench seat folds away into a single seat, this also combines with the other side, (their identical) to make the double bed..

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

since starting this rolling build, I've always wanted a spare wheel on the back door, also a ladder if I can find one?..
anyhow, starting with a spare hub..

Image

I disassembled it, cut it down, had it powder coated and hey presto..

Image

Image

Image

Image

adjustable rear spring hangers...

another update, with adjustable rear suspension, the plan was to have an everyday ride height (middle setting), camper ride height (highest setting), and show height )lowest setting..
now the front sits on the bump stops already, its a harsh ride, I'd kept the subframe assembly from the camper I brought with the intentions of modifying it to allow proper suspension travel, this mainly done by shortening the bump stops..

this is the standard travel

Image

Image

out with the slitting disc

Image

I cut around the top of the spring housing..

Image

Image

Image

then cut the bump stop tube from the housing, shortened it by 70mm...

Image

Image

rewelded it on to the housing top..

then, true to form, I forgot to take pictures??.. anyhow, I rewelded the housing top back in place, I welded around the outside, dressed the welds back, then back welded from the inside...

increased suspension travel..

Image

Image

just needs blasting and painting now..

I've also a set of lower wishbones which I'm modifying to give me back my safe scrub line, those combined with 2 different sets of front springs will give me the ride heights i'm after...

wow, that was a proper mission to update this... comments welcome
cheers

Mate, you're a bloody genius.
Loke the work on the front towers 8)
Did you weld the adjustable suspension hangers in place? Can't see a top bolt.

excellent work - love to see stuff like this 8) 8)

just be careful with the 2 subframes mk3 and mk4/5 have minor differences - the front mounting bolts and the hubs for one! nothing that should stop you but just bear it in mind :D
