mk5 work in progress take 2

Postby AndyJ2506 » Sun Mar 27, 2011 10:53 pm

Well picked up my new van yesterday  and i must say i love it. Its a mk5 lwb med/roof ex minibus td 85ps auto.
It has all the toys i want inc air con leccy windows and mirrors, central locking and last but not least double glazing
The body work needs a little bit of tlc but nothing to major and the manifold is blowing but on the whole a pretty clean van. this will be turned into a crew van so i can use it for work and play hence the size. I have quite a bit planned for the old girl to modernise her a bit and generally make her a bit more desirable. i was going to start today but spent the whole day messing around with the missus car so here are some pics as she stands now and i'll keep updates coming soon :D

well this has been a bit of a bugger of a van so far. The manifold gasket had blown and there was a stud snapped in the block so i removed the manifold which was a nightmare in its self  I managed to drill the stud out but most of the thread was already gone so i helicoiled it. I got the manifold re-fitted and then rounded off another bold because another one had been snapped of and not completely drilled out :( So off it comes again and i drilled it out and helicoiled that one as well. I've now got it refitted tho :D i've just got to get all the downpipe and air box re-fitted now. i've had the van nearly a month now so i really need to pull my finger out  on a plus side tho it started first time on the button today when it hasn't been started since i got it :D . I also started lining it this weekend so hopefully i'll finish it tom/mon and i'll be able to get some piccies up :D

Defo my favourite colour 8)
On another note its up and running  i spent the whole day on it today putting the engine bay parts back together, fitting the new speedo cable, getting my front seats in, fitting the tourneo alloys from the other van and generally tidying it up. Had to go to Lakeside so took the it for a quick spin and i must say i love it. its so smooth and quiet and cruises lovely at 70 and its quieter than mine was at 50 :? It was to late for pics so i'll try and get some sorted during the week

The old saying: "If you want something doing properly, do it yourself." It's because of crap workmanship I hate paying someone to do something for me.
