My Mk5 lwb low roof.

Postby dean_king » Sun Oct 02, 2011 9:23 pm

Today i have just got my mk5 lwb low roof, well, i actually
bought it a few weeks ago but have just got it home.

Image

as you can see from the pic its got some of the usual transit rust spots. Image
Image
Image

and then a couple of dings
Image
Image

i have only got the van home today as its spent some time with fordynick who has done this
Image

he has repaird, well, rebuilt the outer ends on the rear cross member(think thats what its called)
and repaird a largehole in fns inner wing.
he also got a new screen fitted, replaced the track rod ends an re-aligened the wheels.
then he also got me a shiney new mot.
so, many thanks to fordynick for all his hard work so far. and he will be seeing quite a bit
of this van over time.

but all in all its in good condition i'd say, apparently a new engine about 2yrs ago, 2 previous owners,
132k on the clock, power steering, electric windows and central locking.

the plan for the van is to have a second row of seats with bulkhead behind them. the side door
will just be for the second row of seats as the bulkhead will keep the back of the van seperate.

having it layed out like that will keep all my work stuff contained and keep the front in a reasonable
condition.

i shall post more soon, even if only the wish list.

laters....

Give the Red paint a polish with autoglym or something, it will come up looking like new again, Red tends to dull if not polished regularly

Havent had anything to put for errr errrrrr, well, yet actually.
untill today that is.

i thought the door mirrors needed something,

ImageImage

i had bought this little bit a few weeks back

Image

so today i did this

ImageImage

so that was all good, but thought it was time to do this

Image

Image

Image

Image

so then it looked like this

Image

Image

and then, ta dah!

Image

its all a bit heath robinson (sperr'ed off the repeaters) but it kind of works.
Im sure it looks crap in daylight, but it was dark as i was finishing, and, well, im not
finished. so far just passanger side is working but i think i may have broken the second led strip.
i will find out tomorow and put picks up if i get chance to sort it.
i also havent checked the mirrors yet to make sure they still work ok.

anyway, more soon.

i had a chance to stop by the scrap yard yesterday and got this.

Image

so with a bit of haste, i cleared some space

Image

and started thinking of exactly where i wanted them. or more importantly does the
plan in my head actually work with the real stuff infront of me?

so with putting a couple of test holes in the floor  i finally managed to get four
holes in the floor that i could get to(i think ive put 10 holes in the floor). however, i neglected
to take pics of it as my attention turned to this....

Image

my plan is to have the bulkhead staggered so its still right behind the drivers seat so
i have room for 8x4 sheets.
anyway, i took it out and ended up in my shed with it.

Image

i had already cut most of it outside yesterday, but my grinder's fuse went hence why i ended up in the shed with it today.

Image

then some working out

Image

Image

then a bit of assembly

Image

Image

then add a couple of fixings

Image

Image

then a little bit of cleaning

Image

Image

Image

then stand back and admire a nice bodge job.

Image

then when i have done the second half of the bulk head and both in place they will have
a ply joining section.
i think i might have problems with finding fixings for the rear of the bulkhead because
of where the seats finally ended up. but thats another day.

i got a bargin of ebay the other day (no pic but..), i new rear arch for pass side to
replace the damage on the van. i was the only bidder p&p was 4.99 and so was the panel,
less than a tenner delivered, sorted.
so soon as i can afford it welded that will be a big bit off of my list.

more soon.
