I suppose i'm asking for the earth with this question. Whats the chances of finding a rubber mat for my 73? Also looking for a Ford badge for the steering wheel center
Is there any companies that do repro's or good spares, like door rubbers etc etc...........

I've been into split screen VW's for over 15 years and own 2, and there's endless amount of companies that do repro's of 90% of parts for VW's. So wondered if there was any for the MK1's.

Hi Neil, I dont know as he would have to see one to see whats involved. ie, patern edging etc. What he's done with the VW ones is taken a group order of over 100 mats. The vw ones also have a waffled underside which is complecated. They sold for about £140 or so, it was a few years ago. Ive got one in my 73 but its shredded and not really good enough to make an exact patern

Peter at the Transitvan Ownersclub had some made I think
he sold a on ebay. The subject comes up on this
forum every now and then, it's the age old problem
of a privateer self financing, trying to get enough interest so he can get them made cheap
enough to be able to sell them and not be left with 70 in his garage and out of pocket!

I occasionally get jealous of VW owners,being able to get repro old parts so easily.

The drawback with having an all encompassing (admittedly good for soundproofing) mat is it hides the water leaking on the cab floor

Hi Trinny, the guy who had them made sold them at a very good price that was affordable to members and did it to benefit the members. Obviously, for all the running around he done and sourcing a manufacturer, he had to get something out of it

Have you considered giving your cab floor a good coat of something like Dinotrol Metallic Trinny?

I contacted one of the companies on Ebay Joe, and asked if they could make me a fitted carpet if I brought my truck round for them to measure.

The said they would be happy to make a fitted carpet for me.

I rate the Dinitrol products and have used their rust inhibitor and would've tried the
stuff you mention but had already coated with red oxide then black Hammerite
which is holding up well apart from feet activating pedals
wearing through it and (carmat) on drivers side.

How you getting on with making carpet for your cab Joe?

An encouragingly high number of people have taken and interest in Mk1 cab mats since it started.

I have been talking with Jan Stretch of http://www.carpets4.co.uk about fitted carpets for Mk1 cabs.
Jan reckons that from about £60 they could make a fitted carpet for a Mk1, and, I assume, for a Mk2.
Prices will obviously vary with the quality of carpet that you choose.

The next step forward I suppose would be for someone who lives near Lancaster to drop in with their Mk1 or Mk2 so that Jan, or whoever, could measure up.
Once a pattern is made, I expect you will be able to mail order fitted carpets for your Mk1 or Mk2.

Carpets are considered to be much better at sound deadening than the original rubber mats.
