steering track rod assembly

does anyone have a track rod/drag link assembly for our mk2 3.5 ton horse-box for sale as ours was bent when loaded on to a relay truck trying to get it home

just bend it back mate. Exactly same thing happened to me. Oh and slap your recovery service. Muttley just replaced one of mine so if yours is very bad you can have my old one, but the ends are stuffed!

Sorry Fred, I've got to disagree with this one.

If you value your horses, I suggest you get a new one made from similar weight tube, and fit new rod ends.
Getting stuck on the road with a horse is a serious matter.

Straightened track rods, and straightened drag links remain a weak point, and likely to let you down under stress.

How do I know?
Bent a few, and straightened 'em, and re-straightened them again after a bit uf a maul through a muddy gateway.
It never works reliably.

If it wasn't horses, well why not?

:roll: I did offer my old (straight one) just removed today....

And the luton is still on the road with the straightened one.

As a rule one should not straighten bent steering components. However, I have bent a few of these track rod bars :oops: and they only get slightly bent. They are mild steel tube and are quite malleable, I have straightened loads by using a ratchet strap or my trucks winch and all are still giving sterling service. Pukka job though is to replace :wink:

Hosses are like family, only more so Muttley.
You choose your hoss, and bond with it, you are stuck with your family. :wink:

If it's any help to anyone, top pukka way is the way serious off-roaders do it.

They get some larger diameter tube that's fits snugly on the old rod.
It needs the be the same wall thickness, or thicker, and preferable drawn tube not welded.
The cut out the centre section of the old rod.
Slide at least 3 diameters worth of the cut off ends into the new tube.
Make sure the ends line up.
Make sure the new rod is the same length as the old rod
Weld or braze the three bits together.
