Transit MK2 Rear Axle Oil Seal Leak

Postby Tasng4 » Tue Feb 20, 2018 11:00 am

I really hope someone can help me, I have a 1983 Transit MK2 (or MK1 facelift model depending on your point of view) single rear wheel camper. At the last Controle Technique (French MOT) the tester told me the rear axle was leaking oil. I removed the 1/2 shaft & bearing carrier to get at the oil seal....it was quite banged up & distorted as thought someone had removed it and replaced it.

I managed to source a modern neoprene replacement but it still leaks a little. The original is a neoprene seal seated in a metal carrier which is then pressed into the hub.

So the question is does anyone know where I can get a replacement. The part no stamped on the seal is 76VB-1175-CA

Can ayone help?

Normally, on the contrôle technique it isn't a fail, they just tell you it's leaking and that's that.

But if you're wanting to change the seal anyway, try popping in to a "Durand" shop, they deal with cars, vans and trucks in France. Take the old seal to show them.

That's good news, how much are they and how do I buy a pair?

As you can see the one I took off if quite badly damaged. The one on the right is the 'replacement I bought from Poland.

I downloaded the Excel spread sheet but I can't find them so I've asked Ralph for a price.

BTW: My Controleur said exactly that, he wasn't worried as the brakes shoes were clean.
