[Project] MK2 '83 Pinto campervan build

Postby Wolfkop » Mon Aug 20, 2018 1:23 pm

He Guys,
just bought a '83 MK2 old ambulance, 2.0 pinto. I want to make a campervan out of it:
- Doing some stuff on the interior to make it possible to sleep;
- Making sure the engine keeps on running;
- Do some things for better handling, it is going everywhere at the moment;
- Replace missing window, get rust off of the window frames & get the rust of the plate work.

The frame is good, no rust. Engine runs oke, gonna do some basic maintenance at first. Looking into things to make it more reliable, tips are welcome.
Gonna leave it on petrol, because I live in Amsterdam (Netherlands) and Diesel is not allowed into the city for cars from this age.

Keep you guys updated!

The pinto could benefit from an unleaded cylinder head and probably an LPG conversion.

I can totally recommend replacing pionts in distributor with a €40 set of electronic ignition module. Loads of power right from low speeds up. Also 6 degree static timing with vacuum rrmoved from distributor and plugged temporarily!

Thanks! Good to see some other MK2 owners from the Netherlands here! Will def. follow your project!

I've seen that one before. I need a Pinto from a Sierra or so for that right? I will begin to search for one here in the Netherlands.

Sweet, could have come with this one my self. Just did it on my old Motorcycle. Let me look into that one.

I want to have my 'steering' a bit better as well, but a conversion to the MK3 seems a bit to much with the welding at the frame. I think im going to search for the heavy duty shocks off a 3.0 liter, hope those are a bit stiffer than the ones I got right now. Does anyone know of other upgrades besides the MK3 conversion?

Would something like this work instead of searching for the Sierra parts? http://www.ccee.nl/accuspark/Accusparkpage1.htm

If it is a small ring with 4 magnets in it and a pickup coil that replaces points then yes.
Weird thing is...
Ignitiin power to high voltage coil '+' post. This wire also to the new coil in distributor. The other wire to high voltage '-' .
It somehow magically produces the ground pulse to fire sparks...
Work great and massive power gain from 1rpm to 6500!!

Muttley put 4 helper springs as an additional support on my mk1...that made a big difference but also replaced the rear springs and all struts with heavy duty
